Netflix series.... "prequel" to the show Z Nation, though I think they are really just stealing the concept, not the actual universe of the show as they are nothing alike.

I've seen the first 2 episodes and really enjoyed it.

Anyone else watching it?

I did....I thought it was ok, a bit over the top a few times.......I find the lack of dialogue an interesting approach although I don''t think the series will be able to continue like that for long.

I watched it, thought it was good.

Way better introduction to the zombie world than say ftwd which had a great chance to tell us the rest of the story, but failed.

I won't spoiler, but it certainly had some interesting perspectives, it also had some people that were really really dumb. I think that must be a thing in zombie shows, no common sense.

Well... think about the real world.... there are a lot of really dumb people, as the outbreak unfolds those people would die dumb deaths

I tend to think those with zero common sense would die more quickly than fat people.

Finished it last night.... a bit weird to do "episodes" that are only like 15-20 mins long.

The way they tell a story on this show is odd, but thus far I enjoyed it.

I've always wanted to see a show explore the true opening of a zombie apocalypse and not jump to the middle.

Thus far that's what Black Summer is doing, but who knows, if they get a second season they might jump ahead.

The lack of dialogue, as an obfuscation tool, is different.... but in some cases it was just strange.

Like the dude with the dog who opens the door for Rose/Spears at the school.... never says a word, and they don't even try to speak to him one time.

I would think nothing of a silent character, but Rose/Spears never even try to be like "Omg thank u"... kinda odd.

However, the show set the ground rules in the pilot, they mostly tell you a story via actions, not words and they were consistent in the oddities in their storytelling/obfuscation, so I just went with it.

I hope they proceed with this show and just consider it detached from Z Nation.... I know they are calling it a prequel, but they should definitely not steer anywhere near Z Nation territory, these are two very different shows.

I watched it this past couple weeks and the 1 big thing I enjoyed was how the stories wove in and out of each other- the chick gets whomped by the car in the background...then in a later episode it is the focus of the scene.

2 big issues I had were
1-how the zombies must have stopped and milled around waiting while off camera while "spears" was stopping and reloading and then resumed chasing once he was ready.
2- the last scene. No fucking way. That had better be another hallucination.

As for the last scene, do you just mean when they made it to the baseball field and she saw her daughter, or the whole thing?

Lol the whole sequence to get inside used quite a bit of plot armor, though to their credit... a number of people did go down.

Kinda bugged me the entire season, not once did anyone say "Yeah you gotta hit them in the brain/head or they just keep coming" and based on the way they were shooting in the final episode, everyone was still not getting it.

In my mind when Spears killed Rose's zombie husband.... he clicked off like half a dozen rounds into his chest and only went down once he hit the head.

Also the number of zombies Spears went thru at the end, turning into John Wick... but Rose/Sun dragging William just walked by them? I'm thinking this is the unbelievable part you were talking about.

I was trying to keep the spoiler out for anyone who wanted to watch it!
The daughter. Hell- I could buy her finding her daughter in a mass of people... but to be the only people to make it on the field and her daughter and some weirdo showing up within seconds..... barf.

The head thing was bothersome. "Spears" saw the hubby go down in one shot to the head after all kinds of body damage did zero.
He must be dumb as a brick to not make the connection. (actually, he was dumb as a brick. Wearing the uniform and knowing nothing about the service.... he had to know any soldier would see through him immediately. he should have taken it off).

I do have to say, the scene at the diner where they went out to "handle" the zombies only to get their asses kicked and run with their tails between their legs was fucking hilarious. That scene alone made the series.

Yeah I considered trying to avoid spoilers, but honestly I posted this thread like 2 weeks ago and of the 5 people who have seen the show, we've all watched the entire season.... I doubt anyone will come in here and read to the bottom having only seen a couple episodes.

Spears in the uniform was weird.... like in that scenario, world crumbling, you would think anyone with a uniform on people would be like "HEY WTF DO WE DO? WHERE DA SOLDIERS AT?"

Not entirely clear on why he chose to change into the uniform.

I think a smart thing Black Summer did was establish early on... "Listen we're not going to spoon feed you... often the characters won't use dialogue, you have to just follow what's happening, and often we will just wave our hands and jump to a believable starting point for the next episode."

I may not always like it, but if those are your rules.... and you abide by your own gravity....I respect it.
