Crow has a lower body injury out 3 weeks so says the Hox organIzation. They must not be feeling Simpson as a backup.

Interesting... the original NHL.com article made it sound like he would be backing up Raanta. It has since been changed.

They may swap him for Simpson. Not sure what taking Bickell of LTIR did to the Cap.

Either way I did not want to see Simpson in a game for the Hawks. I also don't think Khabi will ever play another game.

Raanta is the future with Crawford so let him play and learn.

Right now Rockford has Carruth, we have/had ZERO depth in goal, this gives them some options.

Another good move.

I like Carruth a lot, but I agree this is a good move. I'm not a fan of throwing these goaltenders into the fire and hoping they can pan out. Simpson is not ready, which is clear. He may not even be ready in the AHL, but I'd rather have him back-up Labarbera when he gets sent back down, than have a tandem of Carruth/Simpson. Carruth can benefit from a year in the ECHL before he takes on AHL duties. I don't think his potential is outstanding either, but he will be better than Simpson and potentially a good NHL back-up and at worst an AHL starter — Simpson, I'm not sure he'll ever make it to the NHL as anything consistent but you never know. I thought Raanta may not be ready for NHL action either... but so far he's been capable.... honestly I still think a season in the AHL would help him out, but I wouldn't be opposed if he were to back-up Crawford either.

Good move either way, we needed some veteran depth in Rockford.

I know Prospects Camp doesn't mean diddly squat, but I certainly haven't liked what I've seen of either Simpson or Carruth over the years. Then again, I'm only an armchair GM, nothing more.

If anything, seeing LaBarbera here certainly helps that situation here no matter what.

I haven't been overly excited about either of them either, but I do like Carruth more. At best he's an NHL back-up though. Very best. Most-likely he doesn't make it. I think less of Simpson. We'll see.

Carruth's first start in the AHL on Friday night was a little shakey at first...letting in 2 soft goals. But it seemed as the night went on his confidence grew. Got his first AHL W that night and went on to get his 2nd W on Saturday night in a shoot out. (see photos in gallery from Friday's game)

I don't think that both Simpson & Carruth are ready yet to be our #1 while Raanta is in Chicago. But, then it sounds like Raanta is not coming back anytime soon...perhaps not at all. Hopefully LaBarbera can step in as #1 here in Rockford and let the Simpson & Carruth "mature" a bit more. Crawford took quite a while...and look at the outcome...WOW.

My favorite teams
 1. Portland Timbers
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
My 1st thought on this was that the 'hawks brass was trying to rebuild the '98 Winterhawks memorial cup team.

We got Hossa, now Labarbera. I'm sure we can get Zednik easily enough, although getting Ference and Morrow would be harder.

We'll just let Toews and Kane take over for Isbister and Tetarenko :)

I like this as a depth move since it seem to be an indication that Khabi is down for the count--and if not, they just need to keep his diet off of the Russian Standard vodka and keep feeding him that Grey Goose or Ketel 1 swill, and that will keep him down.

Seriously though, I agree Ton, I have Carruth higher than Simpson. Simpson was slightly above average on a shitty Everett team, while Carruth was above average on a strong Winterhawks team. If anything, Carruth needs to learn how to win with a malfunctioning D in front of him, while Simpson needs to learn to win.

From that WHL class of goalies, though, the 'hawks should have got Calvin Pickard instead.

Certainly not a bad move to take a goalie in case from a team that has a few.

I have liked the way Raanta has played. You can tell he is a rook but the real deal in my book.
