BLACKHAWKS' BOYNTON SUSPENDED ONE GAME FOR GESTURE

The NHL has handed Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nick Boynton a one-game suspension for gesturing a throat slash towards Blair Jones of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Boynton made the gesture after the two players fought during a preseason game on Wednesday.

This is Boynton's second suspension for an inappropriate gesture. He was also suspended for one game in 2005-06 while playing for the Boston Bruins.

While Boynton may continue to play in the exhibition games, Chicago will be without him for its regular season opener, which will take place Oct. 7 versus the Avalanche in Colorado.

It's an easy suspension to hand out - it's actually mentioned on the NHL new rules video and it's not his first time doing it. I'm not surprised.

Exactly, and the NHL did it to show that they wont tolerate it. Like everyone else stated its only 1 game, we should be fine without him
