Blackhawks agree to terms with Corey Crawford

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with goaltender Corey Crawford on a three-year contract.

Crawford, 26, paced rookie goaltenders with 33 wins (33-18-6), tied for rookie lead with four shutouts and ranked eighth among National Hockey League netminders with a 2.30 goals-against-average during the 2010-11 regular-season. He also led all NHL rookies with a .927 save percentage and a 2.21 GAA in seven Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

During the 2010-11 campaign, his first full NHL season, the Montreal, Quebec, native became the second Blackhawks goaltender since 1994 to reach the 30-win plateau. He tied a franchise rookie record established in 1963 with eight consecutive wins in February and March, and earned the victory in seven consecutive starts in November and December. Crawford compiled a 176:09 shutout streak in January, the longest by a Chicago netminder since Tony Esposito in 1972 and turned aside 16-of-19 shootout attempts during the season, including all eight he faced at the United Center.

Chicago’s second selection (52nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Crawford has compiled a 34-21-12 record, 2.33 GAA and .917 save percentage in 65 regular-season tilts since making his NHL debut with the Blackhawks during the 2005-06 season. He also piled up 144 wins over parts of five seasons in the American Hockey League with the Rockford IceHogs and Norfolk Admirals.

Not a bad signing. Just hope it wasn't a over deal. But I don't think it will be.

yeah really wanna see the numbers

That's usually what I look for more than anything. A 3 year deal ain't bad but the deal all depends on the money. Then I'll say if it's a good or bad signing (re-signing).

Long time coming. Glad to see stability in the goaltender spot.

I really like the contract. Money isn't too much, and seems to fit perfectly with anyone's rational thinking. Hell, it could end up being a great deal if Crawford continues his playing ability or improves from last season. This is good news to come home to.

A bit much for my liking. I understand the hit is 2.67 and in time that looks good, but over $3.25 mil in first year of salary after one not-so-full regular season with no playoff success?

Kinda WTFing over that.

IMO, he was the reason the series actually made it to a game 7 against a far superior team, so I am going to have to disagree with that assessment.

I was hoping for less during the season but after taking over the down stretch of the year and playing good then and through the 7 game series made the money rise definitely and I think it is a worthy price.

Your entitled, but Ducan Keith was the reason the series was extended. He woke up on D and the transition game goes as he goes...and he went. Also remember that two of the three games they won were blowouts.

Crow was unreal at times and meh at times (and allowed some weak ones), but such is the life of a young goaltender. And, ultimately, he couldn't win the series. He has earned zero nominations for any regular season accolades. That deserves 3+? :/

The only justification I can fathom for his salary to start so damn high and decrease is if Stan is preparing now for a future change to how cap hits are calculated (and/or Sharp's future deal also in consideration).

I also think it's clear Stan is trying to prevent the mistake he made last season, and by doing so, overpaying some.
