@ESPNChiHawks Jesse Rogers

And d man Sam Lepisto to one yr

Sassone asks the question:

@TimSassone Tim Sassone

#Blackhawks also have signed defenseman Sam Lepisto to one-year deal. What does that mean for Campoli?

Is he gone? Discuss. Also, what kind of player is Lepisto?

Makes me wonder what this means for Campoli, looks like he won't return with the Hawks.

Man. Going to arbitration with the Hawks must just incense them. The seem to get rid of people that do. I liked what Campoli brought this might hurt.

Guess Stan lets him walk. He will have to wait until after his arb case to become UFA. He will always be remembered for that great last play in a Hawks uni.

Tale of the tape...

Lepisto - 6'1 195 3rd rnd 2004 by WASH...bday 10/17/84...Finnish

Campoli - 6'0 190 7th rnd 2004 by NYI ...bday 7/9/84.....American

10-11

Lepisto PHX/CLB - 70gms - 4g - 12a - 16pts - 72pims - +10 - 72 hts - 90 blk

Campoli OTT/CHI - 77gms - 4g - 17a - 21pts - 36pims - E - 99 hts - 91 blk

Career

Lepisto - 150gms - 5g - 27a - 32pts - +20 (.213ppg)

Campoli - 397gms - 33g - 102a - 135pts - -39 (.340ppg)

Biggest difference, IMO, is Campoli has 44pts (8g-36a) on the PP to Lepisto's 3pts on the PP.

ES point comparison -

Lepisto - .193ppg

Campoli - .222ppg

Not having Campoli for the PP can be a negative. But, I'd assume the points will be taken by Bolland/Seabrook...then Leddy/Keith...with Montador getting some looks.

Lepisto stayed in Finland for a couple years after he was drafted, where as Campoli went right to the AHL

Sami put up decent offensive numbers in the AHL -

w/Hershey -

07-08 - 55gms - 4g - 41a - 45pts - +29

08-09 - 70gms - 4g - 38a - 42pts - +24

He seems to be a pretty good +/- player in his career -

Finland - 190gms - 71pts - +37......Campoli - OHL - 247gms - 150pts - -1

Hershey - 125gms - 87pts - +53..............- AHL - 94gms - 55pts - +2

NHL - 150gms - 32pts - +20..............- NHL - 397gms - 135pts - -39

We've all seen how players learn how to play in the Hawks system/catch the play...and their numbers increase. He could be a steal/diamond in the rough...and, once again...only a 1yr deal. If it's only around 1mil..they'll still have about 2.8mil left with 24 players on that roster.

Can't he be traded before the ARB hearing to a team that'll sign him before?

Found this on Lepisto too...

Scouting report: A fluid skater with quick acceleration. ... More of a puck-mover than an offensive defenseman. Makes sharp, accurate passes out of his own zone. ... Has yet to score a power-play goal in the NHL. -- Aaron Portzline

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lepisto's SBNation Scouting Report:

Assets: Moves the puck with aplomb (Self-confidence or assurance). Has sound defensive instincts and a history of putting up numbers at lower levels. Can log a lot of ice time.

Flaws: Can lose battles in front of the net and in the corners, mainly due to a lack of strength. Is somewhat inconsistent, especially in the offensive zone.

Career Potential: Puck-moving defenseman

And an article, when he was still in the AHL with Hershey - http://sedins.xanga.com/647784407/【prospects】bears-lepisto-already-on-fast-track-with-caps/

I like it.

Teef-Seabs

Hammer-Montador

Leddy-Lepisto

O'Donnell/Scott

Buh Bye Campoli.

Edit: After reading those scout reports I'd flip Leddy/Montador

I think Lepisto/Leddy could be pretty good.

He's a good puck mover, excellent speed...and if you look at his +/-, he seems to be pretty darn good/responsible.

Interesting, I don't really know anything about them but after reading this thread and seeing the comparison of the numbers last year I don't think this is too bad depending on the cap number. I think also his numbers were impacted last year due to the trade, i bet they would be a little higher if he'd been with one team for a full season? You never know but I feel like that trade adjustment period always slows down younger players.

Stan must have another move simmering, this makes Campoli expendable. Will be interesting to see. With the convention on this weekend won't surprise me if they pull off a trade.

If he could get a young 2nd/3rd center with NHL experience we would be set.

Hmmmm...heard Rangers were talking to Lepisto...

Maybe now that the Hawks got him, and they need a Dman....maybe a Campoli/Dubinsky swap on its way??

I was just thinking that actually as well. We know Keith and Seabs ain't moving, that leaves Leddy and Hammer and I pray they don't move Leddy only because I see a lot brighter future. If they could move Hammer and prospects (because we know how much he loves his picks) that would be great, but can he do this after just being so outspoken about the hawks being fine at Center? That would be a huge blow to the guys he just said are going to have a shot.

If not a center a sniper? Semin?

Hammer, Olecz, Beach and a 4th for Semin?

This is from July 8th.

Caps could deal Semin

9:19AM ET

Alexander Semin | Capitals

UPDATE: Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun suggests the Calgary Flames could be more than a little interested in making a deal for Alexander Semin. Flames general manager Jay Feaster is on the hunt for another talented forward and reportedly wants to add one before the summer is up. A deal with the Washington Capitals for Semin would certainly check off that box.

And unlike other organizations, the Flames could justify ponying up the $6.7 million (cap hit: $6 million) Semin is owed next season. Feaster and Co. are under immense pressure to win -- NOW. With only a year left on his contract before becoming an unrestricted free agent, Semin might suit the Flames' immediate needs well.

***

Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press suggests the Washington Capitals are looking to move forward Alexander Semin.

Tait adds that the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs are all said to be interested in Semin.

There has also been chatter that a potential deal for the winger could involve defenseman Zach Bogosian of the Winnipeg Jets.

If I was the Caps I wouldn't do that. If I were the Hawks I would do it in a heartbeat.

Me either, I was just throwing something out there.

I still think Stan has something else simmering, to many players signed and not enough roster spots.

I agree I think a move is coming. You do raise an interesting theory. Trade Hammer and keep Campoli. If your the Hawks and you think last year with Hammer was just an off year let Campoli go. But if you think Hammer is going down hill you trade him and sign Campoli for 3 mil a year.
