2010 second round choice Stephen Johns signs with the Hawks just a few days after his Notre Dame squad was eliminated from this year's NCAA Tournament.

This is real good to see because there had been some fears that Johns was going to take the Justin Schultz route and try to catch on with a team other than the Hawks.

I imagine he's on his way to Rockford, but there was no mention of that in the Hawks' press release, which is linked below.

Read/heard/seen tons of great things about this kid. Huge frame but can skate rather well.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Stephen Johns, the team’s second-round choice (60th overall) in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft, on a two-year contract.

Johns, 21, recently completed his senior season at the University of Notre Dame, posting a career-high 20 points (8g, 12a) in 40 games. He led Irish defensemen in points and goals, while ranking second in assists. Johns, who served as an alternate captain, registered a season-best three points (2g, 1a) on Mar. 14 vs. Boston College.

The Ellwood City, Penn., native posted 57 points (15g, 42a) in 164 career games with Notre Dame from 2010 to 2014. He helped lead the Irish to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament in three of his four seasons and was a member of the 2013 Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Tournament championship squad in 2013.

Johns, a product of the United States Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., has represented the U.S. in international tournaments twice, capturing a gold medal at the 2010 Under-18 World Championship and posting two points (1g, 1a) at the 2012 Under-20 World Junior Championship.

Nothing will happen this week ... Kevin Hayes and the rest of Boston College's team are still in the Frozen Four. They play this Sunday at 4:00 CT on ESPN2 if you want to give him a look. Had a real pretty goal last weekend.
