Anyone have a blue ray player that can make your TV into a smart TV? My girlfriend got me one for Xmas, her and I also bought one for her Dad, and my Mom and Dad.

I use an HTPC, but my gf has one. These netbox DVD/BR players are the way to go, if you don't have a MP4 net-TV.

Internet is.... well, limited to low-load sites, like mobile browsers on phones. Mainly because these TVs and boxes use some form of inexpensive ARM processing. So if you just want to check email, check social network statuses, it's quite functional. But if you want to load real interactive sites, or sites with heavy ajax, java or flash, then it's a real hassle. This site is moderate on ajax, and IIRC, it loaded okay on her samsung bluray netbox. I just don't know what model hers was off the top of my head. But not bad at all for $100.

I also don't recommend too many of the samsung units. They are pretty shitty, unless you're willing to go wired for network. Also, I should add, most sites will send you to a heavily limited form of the internet. Like google is notorious for sending you through their heavily sponsored pages.

Now that I think about it, a Playstation3 works pretty damn good for these purposes. Someone else should chime in with their experiences. I know the apple TV is decent too, and depending on how much you want to spend, you can just do like me, build an HTPC. I think I spent $300 in parts for my current HTPC, which I use to play emulated games on a TV like a console, watch movies, and it browses the net like a champ.

Good deal, man, thanks for the input. We all got Samsung ones also, not sure of the model, sounds like the same. Not bad for 100 bucks like you said. Thanks again for the input.

Good luck. Hope you like it.

The logic is right IMO. It's better to buy the box, than buy a smart TV.

Yeah no shit, we got one for her my gf's Father who just bought a 47'' Samsung smart Tv, that doesn't have the web browser built in...kinda defeats the purpose to me, I dunno.

Hopefully he'll find the blue ray thing useful, all he does is watch youtube, anyways lol
