It should be considered.....unfortunately the Blackhawks don't want to. I <3 Kaner, but I'm all for trading young assets.

Out of curiousity why should we consider it? I mean granted if someone wants to trade us a ridiculous package for Kane then we ought to consider it, but why do you want to trade young assests? Kane, Toews, Keith are basically the 3 guys that this team is built around. There are other guys that are considered "core" but I think those 3 guys are the absolutely must keep players on this team.

Seems like a non-story really. Some fans and media want to trade Kane because he is a finesse player that doesn't lead the league in goals every year and does the stupid things a young 20 something does, except he has millions to blow while doing it. I don't think there is much real call or need to move Kane.

Do people understand how rare it is to have an young American superstar in the NHL? That alone means he should never leave the Blackhawks.

So because he has good marketing value, that doesn't mean the Blackhawks shouldn't even CONSIDER trading him?

Aside from the fact that a ppg guy doesn't make one a superstar ...

the nationalistic bent being ridiculous, and the fact that no one that would have had a say in actually doing something like that has sounded like it was even a remote consideration, I'm pretty sure that the above linked story is some guy's idea of fulfilling a deadline.

I understand Brouw & Kopy getting a little more coin.

But if he keeps Softberg on this team who brings nothing to the table except 'speed'.

Well, then I wonder if it'd be time for a new GM.

Morin, Smith, Kruger > Softberg.

Again... if you don't give a guy a qualifying offer, even if you don't intend to sign a guy- then you basically let the guy go for nothing.

Based upon his small (relative term) salary, there isn't any need to just cut the guy loose if someone wants to offer the guy more. If the guy takes the team to arbitration, then -well so a reprise of the Niemi situation... but with pretty much nothing at stake.

It makes NO sense to not qualify the guy; it doesn't mean that you have to play him.
