What might that mean when the guys on the Cubs who are younger and one could make a case will be better? $20-35 million per year per player?

Could be. I am a huge fan of Crawford, and to me, I think he is one of the best in the game all the way around at that position, especially defensively.

12.5 million per year for a top-notch shortstop is a bargain to me. I guess it is going to make Russell's salary for 6 years look very attractive. :)

Absolutely. Project Russell out to his 5th year in the league and his numbers could better than Crawford's and he'll still be under team control.
