EA seems to have taken the route of manufacuring games in a mass production sort of way where as many game makers are more like artists, their games may take longer and they may not make a new one every year but when they put it out there its hopefully better quality and has more depth to it.
To me EA is like a McDonalds of the gaming world.... they produce alot, its known not to be the greatest quality, but there is so much of it and its spread so far that it will make money. EA is like fast food. Then you have other game makers that are more like a Chillies or a TGI Fridays, I kinda feel like thats how some of the medium sized places work, like say an Activision or Bioware, they are smaller and the quality can be fairly consistent, but you are more likely to get better quality on average but less of it.
Then there are the really small outfits, like the couple who made Mount and Blade or the guy who made that Napolenic game Les Grognards (sp?) they are artists who care entirely about making the best quality game. I think Mount and Blade took 5-10 years and Les Grognards was like 10+ years or something. Problem with being that small and that dedicated to your game is you likely never make a ton of money with it, so it has to be a side project labor of love.
EA is such a mass production they really could not give 2 shits about quality and that is sad... part of the reason I cannot think of game pirating as wholely evil is because of EA and other developers like them.... nothing worse than paying 50$ for a game and realizing its literally not worth 5$.
