I have been holding off on reporting this one....obviously I have been insinuating it...

It was first told to me as a speculative/theory about two weeks ago...but now I am hearing it from others as well..If nothing else it is interesting to say the least.

Here is the scenario as it appears to be starting to come together.

1. The Devils want to keep Kovalchuk.
2. Martin Brodeur is not a given to keep playing much longer, and will be hired the second he retires to work in the Devils front office.
3. Kovalchuk would consider staying if the Devils would go out and get Semin to play with him.
4. Brodeur would agree to play one (possibly 2) years in Washington. Firming up their goaltending situation and making the Caps the HUGE favorite to win a Stanley Cup. Then he could return to work for the Devils, who would be in a much better situation.
5. Semin is a great player, but the Caps are not opposed to moving him for Brodeur. Interestingly, the Caps signed him to a very short deal.

So there it is. I am working on another update this afternoon on the Leafs and Hawks...

HockeyBuzz.com - Eklund - The Big Devils/Caps, Semin for Brodeur Trade Rumor. Ilya would stay...

Seems like legitimate points. I'd be scared to face them in the playoffs :(

Meh, I'm not so sure.

Caps - don't they need a better defensive corps (that, you know, play defense) to go along with a better goalie?

Devils - they already added an offensive superstar before the deadline for this year's playoffs and that didn't do squat for them. They definitely need O help for sure, though. Semin had an awful playoffs this year as well.

Yes it does. Caps needed a black light in the playoffs to try to find him.

Haha. Would then this be a "triple fail" in his words?

1. This has squat to do with the Hawks
2. It's an Eklund rumor
3. No one gives a shit

Pretty much. When I first started reading Blogs somebody told me Eklund is one of the worst out. Its like he has a dart board and just throws shit up to make a rumor.

he pretty much spins a wheel for a player, then one for a team and makes up rumors

Hahaha, this really woke me up this morning.

The Caps need defense, Semyon Varlamov is a good young goaltender who was hurt last season and will be fine next season. I have no idea how Mike Green is nominated for a Norris Trophy when he is out of position half the time. Defense was the Caps problem this season.
