New Jersey center Brook Lopez helped introduce Derrick Rose to life in Southern California last year, with a little help from twin brother Robin and UCLA product Russell Westbrook. That group worked out together in Los Angeles prior to the 2008 draft.

"I definitely tried," Lopez said before Saturday's game. "It was great out there. It's a great life in L.A. We became pretty good friends."

Lopez had a huge game against the Bulls, producing 20 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. He's clearly one of the top candidates for rookie of the year, but said Friday he'd vote for Rose if given the chance. Asked if he'd be disappointed if he's not among the top three, Lopez was diplomatic.

"There are a lot of good rookies out there," Lopez said. "I performed as best I could, put my best foot forward. I'll continue that until the season's over. We'll see what happens."

He'll be in the All-star game in about 2-3 years time. We don't have many legit 7 foot centers in this league anymore, and he is one of them. He isn't flashy but he sure is solid.

Really good pick for the Nets.

And he is right, Rose should be the ROY not because Rose has just trumped Lopez with his performance but because the Bulls are in the mix for the playoffs and the Net are not.

What a great guy Lopez is, very classy. His game isn't pretty but he sure is effective. I cant believe Larry Brown and Mike D'antoni didn't lobby their GMs to draft him.

D'antoni liked Danilo Galliari because he and his father played together so they weren't going to take him. Lopez wasn't really a good fit in D'antoni system as he wasn't athletic enough. As for the Bobcats they were actually going to take Lopez, but Brown was able to convince them to take Augustine because of his undeniable love for point guards

Down low you have to be athletic to play in D'antoni system

Lopez is really solid and will be a top 5 center in a year or two just because there are no real true centers, he should be better than Bogut. I think he will put up 15 and 10 next year. I don't understand why NJ doesn't give him the ball in the post more. Harris and Lopez will be a good tandem for awhile, they just need to get some good pieces around them. VC is uninterested and everyone else on that roster is junk. But Kiki is a good GM and they should be a playoff team again soon.

I think they got some good pieces, but they don't play any defense and have not gotten any prodcution out of the power forward position. They probably trade VC this offseason and give CDR some run next year

Lopez looks like a great pick at #9. Too bad we couldn't have gotten him at #9 a year earlier ;)

Doug if I am correct you were trashing Lopez in your podcast scouting report? I always think about what would of happened if we didn't get the number one pick

Could you imagine that? The current roster +Lopez -Noah would be pretty darn good.

I too think Lopez will be one of the top centers in a few years, he has a solid post game and like Rose seems poised as a rookie.

Yes Brook was a great pick by the Nets and will most likely be a better player than Noah #9 a year earlier. He also is smart and has a cool personality and should have a solid fan base as he gets better. I was very upset when we drafted Noah so high, I knew he would never have any offense. But now that I think about it, he is improving and is a legitimate 7 footer with good mobility and hustles. Which is hard to find in this league so I would like the Bulls to be patient with him unless a superstar is offered.
