As expected... just like it was expected that the cubs did what they did, i'm sure teh unions are making sure they follow up with their due diligence of posting grievances for future players.

Not sure how they plan to prove the cubs erred by doing this. It's such a subjective matter and ultimately it's on them to prove wrongdoing .

But didn't the Cubs call him the day after they gained an extra year of control? That's not a coincidence.

Doesn't matter, they have to prove that call up was specifically stopped from being sooner. There's a difference between everyone knowing it was the case(which we did) and proving it in arbitration. Also, don't forget that Olt was playing 3B to start the season and got hurt. If you're the cubs it's easy to say we liked Olt to start the year and he got hurt so Bryant was called up sooner than we wanted.

Yeah, that's my point though. They aren't doing anything but posturing for posturing sake in the face of future negotiations. They are just doing this to make sure everything is on record so when they go into the next major negotiations they have things to point to and say "well this situation was unfair to our players so we want you to fix it" and there there is back and forth give and take and hopefully they get something that they might not have if the grievances weren't played out. Just my take.

Yeah I believe they are already negotiating the next CBA and some have suggested this is just the way the MLBPA is trying to gain leverage. Either way, they agreed to the situation and I really don't see how Bryant's camp proves anything. So, it seems like it's just a fight for the union and Bryant ultimately doesn't benefit himself.

That's probably about 80% of all player grievances... it's not about the current situation, it's about the future situations that come up... either way he's not going to be hurting for money any time soon if he keeps up his play on the field.

Olt and La Stella got injured at the perfect time to make what the Cubs did look legitimate

Yea, I knew this was going to happen. Boras barking was going to make this happen. Trust me, every player is happy they did this. It fights for future negotiations in their favor.

That's exactly what this is and if getting those rules changed is part of the goal I don't blame the MLBPA for doing this, and they are the ones behind it btw. Negotiation on the new CBA are due to start in early January and they want this issue involved in the negotiations. This way they will have a ruling to argue their case whether it's a loss or a win, a win is pretty likely of course.
