Several sources believe the Bulls are agreeable to a package of Thomas and Jerome James(notes) for Knicks forward Al Harrington(notes). Thus far, Walsh has resisted parting with Harrington, but discussions are still active and the teams have explored different combinations in recent days that would ultimately deliver Thomas to the Knicks.

The Tribune has picked up the story so it seems like this pretty much accurate. Seems to me like no brainer as first off you gain an extra million in flexiblity so you can sign someone without going over luxury tax. Also Harrington spread the court and also is pretty efficent on offense. He would have the best TS on the at 56.

That would be nice but I just don't see why NY would do this. He is putting up 20ppg for them. What could they possibly see in tyrus that would be better? They also can't use their cap space and keep him anyway unless they agree to a mle type deal quick.

I also think Rose and AH will make a very good pick and roll duo, I am just glad that Pax isn't trying to trade a lotto pick for him this time.

Before I left Chicago, almost fours years ago, the last imagine of the Bulls I had was watching a Preseason game. That morning I had to get up and load my Uhaul in order to travel northeast into Michigan. So I decided to watch Bulls and Spurs before I went to bed. I dreamed all that night that this 6'9'' Forward would turn the Bulls around, after all, that steal and one-handed flush was nice. He was the reason I started watching Bulls games. Now I'm 19, it sucks to see Tyrus Thomas possibly leaving. Stop in the name of love, before you break my heart... think it over Gar!

I felt great about this at first and then read Doug's post. I honestly don't know much about Harrington's game. Anybody have thoughts on it?

Yeah, I have thoughts on Harrington's game...

and I got $5 on Tyrus' plane ticket up outta here!

Harrington can do everything Tyrus thinks he can do offensively...but he can't.

Harrington can shoot...with range he also has an ability to post and he can score the basketball. He would be the best scorer on the team.

Defensively.....he is a hell of a scorer...

This is a great move for both teams I think. For the Bulls, this is a no brainer. We get a proven scorer in the post, that we have always needed. The contract is for 1 yr, so we still get cap flexability, but can be significantly better offensivly for the remainder of the season. For the Knicks, it gives them back a potential future piece. I am sure they wouldnt be resigning Harrington at the end of the season. At least if Tyrus performs, you can proboboly get him cheap. Lets get er done!

I would do this trade in a second.

I agree with Mark, it works for both teams. the Bulls get a good scorer in Harrington and the Knicks get someone with potential still. But if Tyrus can't blossom in D'Antoni's system then he's just gonna be one of those guys that just never gets it.

Tyrus isn't gonna work here, Pax took a chance and it didn't work. Time to move on.

Speaking of Tyrus. My friend is a Blazers fan so I watch their games from time to time and I can't help but think that trade (Aldridge for Thomas) was bad for both teams. I think Thomas would be better in a different system, one more oriented like the Blazers. They really need an energy guy, someone that get in and jump around. Aldridge isn't that guy. Also, Aldridge and Oden are a little lame together at times. But if Rose and Aldridge we're together, we'd be awesome. Now, it's entirely possible that we wouldn't have Rose if that trade didn't happen...

Thoughts?

I wouldn't expect Harrington to post up any pfs unless noc is in town but I agree its a good deal. The sad thing is that TT was our hold up from getting a real pf in boozer.

Harrington can post up and can play more than one position...he is jumpshot happy though. I am very interested to see what happens with this deal. This would be the best scoring big man this team has seen in quite some time.

I would much rather have David Lee but I guess that's not happening.

I don't know where you guys are getting that Harrington is a legit post player. He is very perimeter oriented and can only post up sfs, which he won't be playing here. Harrington is a significantly better tim thomas. He has the game of a SF. You can't just dump the ball down to him like a Duncan, Shaq or Malone.

I think the reasons the Bulls would make this deal should be obvious. Harrington brings the team much needed offense, and a guy that has three point range. He is also a guy that will have no problem being a vocal leader from day one. That's clearly something that is missing on this team as currently constructed.

Thomas going to the Knicks make a lot of sense for their organization as well. Dantoni always wanted to see how Thomas would perform in his uptempo style. NTM, the Knick don't have a 2010 lottery pick, due to a deal they made with the Jazz. So drafting Thomas for a guy that's most likely not coming back is like getting a fresh young draft-like prospect. And they'll still be able to sign a max free agent with Thomas or without. I wouldn't be surprised if they start a Tyrus/Amare power forward/center next season.
