The 2 main ingredients that Point Guard needs to be very good on the court.

1) A Talented Big Man who can score and demand attention.
and
2) 3pt Shooters/Scorers - more or elite the better.

Now, let's look at the PGs that actually have BOTH of these.

* Rondo = KG (talented big man) + Allen/House/Pierce (Good 3pt shooters/Scorers)

* Nelson = Dwight (talented big man) + Carter/Hedo/others (Good 3pt shooters/Scorers)

* Mo Will. = Shaq/Z (talented big man) + LBJ/Gibson/Parker (Good 3pt shooters/Scorers)

* Bibby = Horford + JJ/others

* Calderon = Bosh + Barney/Hedo/others

* Harris = Lopez + Carter/Hassell/others (last year)

* Jennings = Bogut + Redd/Delfino/Illyasova

* Arenas = Jamison + Butler

* Parker = Duncan + Bonner/Mason/Ginobli

* Chris Paul = D. West + Peja (41% 3pt shooter)/Posey etc

* Nash = Amare + Richardson/Frye/Barbosa

* Deron = Boozer + Okur/others

* Billups = Nene + Melo/JR Smith/others

* B Diddy = Kaman + Gordon/Butler etc.

* Westbrook = Green + Durant

Now look at Rose:

Does he have a Talented big man that can score on a consistent basis??? NO
Does he have 3pt shooters/threat that requires any attention??? NO
Does he have another scorer that scores 20+ a game??? NO.

I am not saying it automatically makes Rose better but we all forgot that when we drafted Rose, we knew that he was a RAW player and would take

couple of years to develop. I know he started off nicely and won ROY award but that doesn't change the fact that he is still RAW.

He needs players around him - especially those 2 ingredients that I said above. That would make that development MUCH faster and smoother.

Ofcourse I should have included couple other things like a great scorer next to him to take pressure off of him and another big thing is Coaching,

which we don't have as far as teaching/mentoring/motivating goes.

The whole idea of this thread is to let people know to put things into perspective. Especially when people start comparing to development of guys

like Rondo/CP3/Deron/etc. Those guys already had these 2 ingredients available when they started their career. Rose has neither of these right now.

Outsiders will make the argument that we have Deng and Noah, whom stats look great but aren't the interlock going forward. You agree?

That would be like arguing the sky is black. Noah demands almost no attention and Deng is not a shooter and a pretty poor scorer. The argument can be made that we had a guy thet fit one of those categories and we let him go. BG is both a 3 pt shooter and a scorer.

My favorite teams

  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Ben Gordon was definitely one of the 2 main ingredients. He is by far one of the best shooters in the league. So we really only needed a big man (which is why I wanted someone like Bosh or Stoudamire or even Boozer so badly) to make Rose seem like a total stud. However, we now have none of those which is unfortunate. Deng seems to be a pretty good 3 pt shooter from the corner, but he's hardly a 3pt threat yet. The people who are supposed to be our 3 pt threats (Salmons and Hinrich) are shooting worse than I do (sometimes, I'm not that great either) for the season.

It will be much easier to find a wingplayer than a low post scorer. If the Bulls get a Wade or a Johnson, lesser with Johnson...can Rose play off the ball well? Like Deron Williams has been doing in Utah? That will be the question.

Moreso than a scorer, you need someone who can hit open shots. You don't need some great scorer at the wing position. You need someone who can shoot...and defend. Defense seems to be underrated.

I don't think Deng is as bad a scorer as stated, he is having a good year...don't get that statement...

Team building is a long process, and it's an even longer one when you have a front office that makes poor decisions. Any honest Bulls fan should know that this is pretty much a throw away season, with the hopes for a major upgrade in the off season. That being the reality, this season really doesn't matter a whole lot. I consider it as more so a means to a end than anything truly substantive.

The Bulls probably should look to make a move that will assure that they'll have max money under the cap for 2010. If they don't do that, it will be the perfect example of a poor decision that will make the team building process longer and more difficult. There are dominant front court players available in free agency, and the Bulls must sign one. Depending where the Bulls draft, there are a number of very good shooters at the shooting guard position. But the Bulls actually have to draft one.

So when you look at this season you have to keep in mind that it's pretty much a throw away season. The guys that the Bulls need to build a complete roster should be available, and it's the job of the front office to acquire those players. If not the Bulls will remain in this quite boring mediocrity that we're watching this throw away season.
