I would never join facebook or myspace. Why would I want to join a place that makes people find you? Like it I didnt like kids from high school why would I want them to get in touch with me? If I wanted to keep in touch I would have so dont be contacting me  .

That makes people find you? You can have a completely hidden profile if you wish. That means only the friends you choose can see you. You have 100% control over everything in there.

I've never understood the fascination with facebook/myspace either really.

As someone who has had good friends move away from Chicago and eventually moved away myself, I find social networking a great way to be able to stay in touch with those folks. I'm sure there are many other advantages, but that's the one of which I'm most fond.

While I'm not on it all the time, I do check my facebook once a day (maybe more if im not working or busy) and as mentioned above its a good way of keeping in touch or seeing what people that have been in your life in one shape or the other, are up to. I think it can be good to meet people to who have a similar interest (which I guess we also do here & on other forums like realgm or perhaps ones of different interests/hobbies)

I joined up and sent some invites out.

Facebook is great. It's an easy way to keep in touch with people without having to have to call them and such. A lot easier. Sometimes I don't like having lengthy phone conversations, a wall post is much easier :)

I suppose it has advantage in that it's passive, so you just write some random stuff about yourself and other people see it and then can respond if they want, so you don't have to actually go out on a limb and talk to someone.

IM, Email, or the phone are all better to me.
