Went to the game tonight. Got some early entry tickets, and got to watch the early shootarounds.

One thing that you will notice is that Mike Wilhelm and Bob Ociepka are working their asses off during shootaround. Randy Brown participated in shoot around a little bit, but then sat his ass on the bench and joked with the players for at least half of it, while Ociepka and Wilhelm were at constant work.

Taj Gibson was by far the hardest working player during shoot around. He attacked it hard, and he didn't miss many shots at all. He was automatic from midrange.

Derrick Rose, Kirk Hinrich, and Luol Deng also went hard at shoot around. Rose and Hinrich went through periods during the shootaround where they couldn't hit a shot to save their life.

One thing of note was that neither Derrick Rose or Luol Deng practiced any three point shots during their routines.

Luol Deng practiced this stupid drill where he pumpfaked a corner three and dribbled into a midrange shot. The stupidity of this drill is that in actual game situations, the players are going to be playing off him, giving him the open corner three, so all the dribble accomplishes is dribbling into a contested jumpshot.

Aaron Gray is really really big. He hit his jumpshot pretty well. Got to watch him go through ghost post moves. He has some really bad footwork for a post player.

Tyrus Thomas came out for shootaround, and didn't seem to take it very seriously at all. He went over and talked to Jim Boylan for a long time, and then sat in the courtside seats and sat there by himself for like 5 minutes, before Jannero Pargo went over there and sat there with him for like another 10-15 minutes. Then Thomas might have took some shots, I really don't remember seeing Thomas taking shots though. Not really hard to see why the coaching staff would favor Taj over Tyrus when you compare the two player's work ethics, as well as on court production.

You could really feel the energy in the second half when the play was getting more physical. The energy was really building up when Hinrich and Ridnour got the double fouls, and then Ridnour got the charge. You just knew if there was a foul on the next play, some type of fight would break out, and that is exactly what happened when Ridnour got called for the foul on Hinrich's drive.

For some reason the Bucks fans were all hating on Michael Redd, and booing him in the first half. Redd of course was huge in the second half, and scored 24 points on 8-16 shooting, which is great. Yeah, Redd has been having a down year, but as fans you have to show respect to someone who has been with your team, and only your team since 2000, and has been "the man" for your team for a good portion of the last decade. He's on the wrongside of 30 now, and is probably in steep decline now. But as fans you have to show respect to a career Buck like Redd. But I guess if you're a shooting guard scorer and your name isn't Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, or Ray Allen, you're going to feel the hate if you miss a few shots.

I was in a direct line pretty much behind John Salmons on that final shot. After the pump fake he had a clear look at the basket, he just pussed out.

How did Salmons puss out? It would have been an off balance three when Deng was wide open.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
The thing that kills me about this game (from the box score because I once again couldn't watch) is that Deng missed 5 FTs. It's really great that he's getting to the line 10 times in a game and on the season he's like 80+%, but 5-10? I'll take is as an aberration for now though.

I agree with the sentiment but I don't think it's fair to judge ty based on shoot around. Some guys just have a different philosophy when it comes to shoot around. In HS I never wanted to go all out during shoot around because I felt it would hurt me come the end of the game. Usually limited myself to 10 3's and some dribbling with my weak arm.

That said, by all accounts (vdn's at least) ty has been having really good practices lately.

On a semi unrelated note, did anyone read Dt's article the other day? I agree with him it is kind of odd that taj would prefer--maybe thats to strong of a word..--he's more effective coming off the bench but he's starting.

I agree...I think it is a bit irresponsible for any of us to label someone's work ethic as bad based simply on an observation of pregame workouts. You don't know the routine each person puts in daily to prepare to play basketball...unless you have the keys to the building...and every other facility that the Bulls conduct practice and workouts.

K.C. Johnson said that Tyrus was one of the hardest working players on the team...and I have heard that echoed several times from others....
