The Chicago Bulls announced on Thursday that the team has requested waivers on guards John Lucas III, Kyle Weaver, and forward Roger Powell.

Lucas III (5-11, 165) saw action in five preseason games with the Bulls and averaged 2.2 ppg and 0.8 apg in 6.4 mpg.

Weaver (6-6, 201) played in three preseason contests and posted averages of 2.3 ppg, 2.3 apg, 1.7 rpg and 8.7 mpg.

Powell (6-6, 225) appeared in one preseason game and recorded two points and one board in two minutes of play. Chicago’s roster now stands at 13.

Now they can play in the D league to get work in, instead of sitting on the bench and not playing.

Bulls waive Weaver, Lucas, and Powell

Well, I don't think it's much of a surprise that the three got waived. Powell barely played, so his odds were near zero. Lucas played horrifically after having perhaps a legitimate chance to make it as a third PG...

Oh well, if they need to pursue further back-ups the field is wide open haha.

I heard about this on the radio, and I was bummed about Weaver. Lucas needs too much work, and Powell should just go overseas. Like CTB said, there's no shortage on guys in this bracket of skill.

Yeah, once you think about it for a minute. There are a lot of decent FA's out there. Now, I may need to hit up NBA.com to look it over, but you can count on the right role players that Thibs needs are out there.

All hail Brian Scalabrine for not getting cut...then again I think he was actually signed to be part of the team rather than try out for it.

That's not, exactly, easy. There are probably some leagues in Europe where he'd still only be a 7th or 8th guy, at best.

I'm surprised they didn't keep one of them. But either way not a big deal or anything.

This was expected. Lucas had the only shot of those three to make the team as a 3rd PG.

I disagree. I think Weaver had the best shot of making it once he was brought into camp. He played 2 seasons in OKC where Adams was an assistant & was the most well rounded of the 3 players. If any one of them made it, it would've been Weaver. I wish they would've kept him but it wasn't really a necessity.

I did like Weaver a little bit when he got some time in the beginning of preseason. But I still thought Lucas had a great shot, but I guess he's just not NBA worthy....

I never thought Lucas had a shot at the final cut. I like him, but he could not show his 3pt range to save his life. He was hot for 2.5 games in SL, and that was it. Weaver on the other hand... He's going to make an NBA roster soon enough.

I always thought that Lucas had the best shot coming in out of summer league, but that's summer league. It was clear after the first few games that Lucas shot himself out of a roster spot. I guess I could see why people thought Weaver would make it, but he only played in 2 of the games, so that speaks for something I think. Powell didn't have a shot, and that showed too in his lack of PT.
