Oh man, Fred bashing the 'drones' is hilarious. I completely agree with him in that the casual fan thinks that Hinrich is a very very good player, much better than guys like Gordon. Its sad that the media doesn't do anything to project perceptions of the players that are closer to reality. If you read Sam Smith's mailbag, you get questions that say the Bulls don't need Gordon, and Hinrich is a much better fit with Rose!! Every time Sam mentions the name Gordon, he cannot complete the sentence without using the words 6th man. You also occasionally get those fluff pieces about Hinrich from KC Johnson.

I've never had a problem with Hinrich, he's solid, but the media's favorable treatment towards him in relation to other players is ridiculous. I really don't get it.

I like Gordon more so than Hinrich myself, but I don't know many people who think Hinrich is better.

I think part of the problem with Gordon is that so much of his press time over the past two years has been due to failed contract negotiations.

The sports radio guys rag on him too, but they only cover the Bulls as an afterthought, only a few of them have any passion for the team, and even those guys aren't that great with their coverage.

I've heard callers on the radio say Hinrich is a better long term fit with Rose because he plays both ends, good leader, hard worker, etc. etc....while Gordon is just an inconsistent shooter. It really seems that's what most casual fans think.

Could be that I don't talk to enough casual fans.

I think the sports radio guys are really guilty of bolstering that image.

One argument that I like for keeping Hinrich over Gordon is that Hinrich will accept that sixth man role while Gordon won't

Hinrich discussed how hard it was not starting at one point this year too. Gordon always played as a 6th man and played well. He didn't like it, but he did what he was supposed to do.

I'm not sure that Hinrich would be any different there really.

Yes, but if Paxson went to Gordon this summer and said I can only play you as sixth man (basically already said it on lunch with legend) Gordon would get out of town so fast

Paxson needs to pay Gordon more than anyone else. If he does that Gordon will stay, if he won't then Gordon will leave.

This, IMO, is more or less the scenario with any FA, yet people make a big deal about it with Gordon. If Gordon is perusing MLE deals with other teams the Bulls will have a chance.

If you keep Gordon you have two options either you can play him 25 minutes a game or 33 to 35 minutes a game, but the last 10 minutes would be at the point guard spot

I'm not sure why keeping him would put him in a 25 minute or 35 minute role. He could also be in a 30 minute role, a 29 minute role a 32 minute role.

I think if we kept Gordon that he'd be a 33+ minute player though.

Well, next year I expect Rose to player 38 minutes, and for Deng + Salmons to cover small forward minutes. I expect Salmons and Gordon to each get 24 minutes a piece, so that only leaves you with around 24 minutes for Gordon unless you plan him backup point guard. Remember the reason Salmons got so many minutes is because he can be troublesome if he isn't playing enough

PG: 38 Rose, 5 Gordon, 5 other
SG: 25 Gordon, 23 Salmons
SF: 33 Deng, 13 Salmons

or

PG: 38 Rose, 10 other
SG: 30 Gordon, 18 Salmons
SF: 30 Deng, 18 Salmons

or you play Deng 5 minutes at PF.

Either way, there are ways to get Gordon 30 minutes at just SG or to inflate his minutes by playing him a nominal part of each game at PG, or you can have Salmons initiate the offense as a PG which he did for Sacramento.

I'm not sure that if the bulls resign Gordon that he well have any problems getting minutes because it would mean that Deng or Hinrich will be gone. If its Deng its no problem because Gordon would play the 2 and Salmons the 3. If its Hinrich it'll be like it was before Deng was hurt with Salmons being the sixth man.

Ok thats all fine and dandy, but what about at the end of the game? There could be trouble brewing when one of either Gordon or Salmons is on the bench to end the game

i think we should keep rose and gordon as our guards.and then keep hinrich and salmons as back ups(with the exception of luol deng being injuried)
