Since 1996, 35 children have been diagnosed — and three have died — of brain tumors, leukemia, lymphoma, and other forms of cancer — all within a 12-mile wide circle that includes two small towns and farmland just south of Lake Erie.

Thats friggin weird. Health officials have not discovered a cause yet.

has to be some sort of environmental contamination I imagine. That is an unreal amount of people getting cancer in so small an area.

Not the only place like this in the country either. My friend lives in an area like this in Florida... terrible.

I read an article a year or two ago about a similar epidemic up in canada in some of the indian towns. There were trying to figure out the linkage, don't know if they ever did.

Yeah a lot of shit has gone down with Native Americans in Canada the past 100 years or so. A lot of it not even acknowledged until recently. Like, oh, a genocide that took 50,000 Native American children's lives from the 1890s to mid 1980s.

This was more about linking the mining industry in the town to genetics in the Native Americans there. Something about particular circumstances between the people and the town because it seemed to be only the native Americans being affected.

Not to be mean and be with cold hart.

But fucking move your family and children away from that if you love them!! Obviously something fucked up is happening and I know its not easy to up and change your entire life by moving but honestly get the fuuuuuuuuuuck out of dodge!!! That's a different argument I know. And it's easy for me to say not being in the situation. But if you are worried about your child getting sick again why are you living in the same residence? Sorry that makes no sense to me that is like walking back into the fist that knocked you out.

Anyways its a sad story and very scary. I feel for the families and children being effected by all of this. Probably some geographic area where all satellite and cellular waves are gathering up and causing hell. You know all that shit is eventually going to catch up with us all. YAH YAH YAH I AM ONE OF THOSE PARANOID TYPES WHO DOESN'T FULLY TRUST RECENT TECHNOLOGY.

Hope they can get to some general ideas about what may be causing the higher than normal numbers. It really is sad and scary.

Hard to draw any conclusions from that. Article doesn't site the population density for the 12 mile area, but mentions the population for one town at 6000. These cancer clusters can be hard to point to any one source. Deserve investigation, but more often than not they don't find one smoking gun, particularly when there are various types of unrelated cancers. Things to consider that the article didn't really mention; Radon, Tobacco exposure(fetal and second hand), Pesticide/chemical exposure in a farming community.
