I have a 2003 Honda CRV and the blower died. What is that going to cost for repair?

Yeah I'd probably consider buying a "new" car. It sounds expensive, and not worth the cost to repair the car.

Wait so from the time I left this thread and came back, your car changed from a '98 to an '03 ?

Every blower that I have done was about 1-3 hours install. Looks like the part is between $80-120.

It's not a terribly hard job, if you know your way around the inside of the dash/console area.

Also want to add, the resistors go out on those well before the actual blower motors. You might have to replace both, or just have to replace the resistor or just the motor. If you don't have a lot of experience, you might need to get some estimates.

I don't but I'm willing to try

I saw the resistor as something. That would be great if that is what it is

I might need some help tearing apart the glove box to access

To be honest, car repair scares me. I mean it's what I drive my wife and kids in.

Eh, unless you have a gearhead buddy looking over the work with you, I wouldn't DIY. It's not a hard job, but there are little tips and tricks when you come across every area of a vehicle.

But if you take the dive, I suggest you have a chilton/hayes/shop man on hand, and you MAKE sure you have powered down your charge(unplug battery, drain the extra current by turning over the ignition). Even if you know what you're doing, you can still blow a some fuses when working with electronics with a charge left in the system.

Also, before you try to DIY, make sure you have the tools. Do you know how to use a multimeter? Because a blower replacement is 90% disassembly and reassembly of your dash, which is 50% housings and 50% electronics. You don't HAVE to know how to use a meter of sorts, but it's a big time saver for pinpointing the problem, checking to see if something else is shorting your blower/resistor, ect.

That's the most I can offer to you to think about. Automotive maintenance I do know very well, but explaining things over the internet is subject to a huge gap in interpretation between both parties.

Also, get the damn estimate. Make a call to a few Honda dealers. This is a fairly common problem with the 03 CRV after a quick google, so I'm sure they have mechanics that are familiar/efficient with the job, and they can narrow down the estimate pretty close.

I had the blower replaced on my car a few years ago and it cost about $500 IIRC. Then less than a year later, it went out again. I took it to a different repair shop (same name different location) and they said it was because they were supposed to change the resistor and the motor at the same time and they didn't.

Luckily the motor was still under warranty.

Once you get too it, it isn't too bad... Just remembering what all you took off and in what order they go back that can be the real head scratcher... And you will end up with more parts laying around, like why do I have an extra 21 screws?

I swapped out my truck fan, actually upgraded it to a Chevy blower motor, had to do a little modification, but now I can actually feel a stiff breeze blowing out of the Defrost vents.. The old motor, well lets just say I could create more of a breeze by farting at the windsheild (which actually created more soot on the windshield).
