Surprising, though I guess Q kinda set this one up with his comments made after Carcillo's season ended.

Anyways, a 4th line dirtball that showed he can hang on the 2nd line and seems to be well liked in the locker room.. probably making about 750k again... not the end of the world. Worst part is how bad Shanahan will have it out for him from now on.

Maybe Danny boy can pull a Cooke-like turnaround.

Wow, a slight raise and 2 years for a guy on the NHLs shit list.

Clearly the Hawks liked what they saw from him this year.

I really liked what Carcillo brought to the Blackhawks this year when he had his head on straight, which was actually most of the time.

Shanahan has settled down BIG time on the suspensions but Carcillo has a bulls-eye on his back.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out...but for the price and what he can bring, I like it.

one more boneheaded move & he'll be out of the NHL.

He really grew on me til he took out himself & Gilbert.

not only am I going to butcher a quote, but I can't even remember who I got it from...

but in regards to hockey players, id rather tame a tiger than paint stripes on a house cat.

I think that sorta sums up the one questionmark that we all have going forwards with carcillo on this team.

nice signing at a small cap hit but he really needs to watch his back.

a 4th line with carcillo and shaw on it next year will be exciting to watch

Decent price for what he brings to the table. Basically a goon, but one who can actually play hockey a bit. Thumbs up!!

he bringz da firez and passion!

he has played 28 games this year for the hawk, you really cant say that "i like what i saw" and be encouraged from 28 games of a major sample size. The guy is still an idiot, still takes awful penalties. Sure he may have skill but how many years are we going to keep saying that when he keeps making the same stupid plays over and over. the 800k may not affect the cap, but it could affect the W/L column with his stupid behavior, bad penalties etc. When you look at the blues for example, they have skilled players that are physical, sure carcillo is skilled (not to the point of some of the blues players) but he is skilled, he just doesnt know or want to use his skills. also this whole "he can hang on the top 6" is funny shit. he obviously couldnt.

his OPS and DPS shares are weak at best.

he has been in the league from 06 till present and stacks up to 38 goals and 46 assists. Lets try really hard to keep him out of the top 6 talk.

Id be willing to bet ALOT he is out of hockey before he fulfills his contract.

I know you are a fan of OPS/DPS...but I mean the guy is a 4th liner who makes 825K a year. He isn't supposed to put up ridiculous stats except play into his role. I think he did a pretty damn good job of that and hell, he is the type of guy that has enough skill that he could take a shift in the top 6 if needed or he could play there if injuries happen.

In terms of sample size, you were touting Shaw after just a few games in the NHL and saying you saw him in juniors. Common, can't have it both ways. 28 games is plenty of a sample size, especially if people have seen him in the NHL with other teams. At the end of the day I truly believe that the Blackhawks miss players like Burish/Eager...guys who play on the 4th line but have some other added value. Can't have a team full of top 6 guys because that doesn't work salary wise. Definitely need some useful grit, and I think Carcillo could definitely supply that.

To reiterate about sample size too - and there were professional (local to Chicago) hockey writers who were (imo artificially) high on Ben Smith based upon a far less sample size and games in the playoffs.

They were acting like the guy was the second coming of Jeremy Roenick despite his never really ever having a statistical output suggesting he was that. (Roenick had a similar sample size to Smith.).

Carcillo's all right, and maybe the injury time off has given him a little time to assess he personal priorities.

Doesn't the CBA expire before the season starts? If so there may be a lot of teams taking a wait and see approach. That combined with the fact that there really isn't much out there in the UFA market this coming off season... and the Hawks either need a 2nd line center (if for nothing else- the fact that they need the depth), or 2 quality wingers. Not saying Carcillo fills that role - but the Hawks have some issues.

i love the shaw comparison i really do. so what? i like shaw. same player type his whole career so your rebut is soft. carcillo first off wasnt anything that should make one state " i like what i saw" if there was any any difference in his play it was in a small dose ala sample size. he has an entire career of a super size that shows he isnt very good, takes dumb penalties, gets suspended (cue someone stating zomfg itz da shanahans fault ) and cannot win board battles since a lot of the fans love that. dps and ops along with conventional stats and eye test are pretty good tools for evaluating. in this case he sucks...and no he isnt a good fill in on the top 6. everything the hawks do is right!

Christ, would've rather brought Burish back & let Carcillo go.

Gets under your skin but doesn't act like an idiot.

Carbomb's a cool dude, but I don't want him playing hockey on the Blackhawks.

Why aren't the Blackhawks depending on Rockford to fill Carbomb's role?

Because no one in Rockford can fill his role.

So Rockford has none of that useful grind?
A fighter/tough guy can be filled by someone from Rockford.

They'd be smarter than Carcillo.

Rockford has none. Who is this "they" you speak of? Because "they" don't exist.
