After losing one ace to Tommy John surgery, it seems highly unlikely that the Cardinals would look to move their other ace in a trade, but Chris Carpenter told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that he wouldn't stand in the way of a deal...

"It's not up to me," said Carpenter. "If the Cardinals wanted to trade me, obviously I would go. There's no question about that. I'm not going hold back or veto or do anything like that if they're looking to move me.

"I'm not concerned about it, though. I'm concerned about getting myself ready to pitch at the beginning of the season."

Carpenter, 36 in April, is in the final guaranteed year of his contract and will earn $15MM in 2011. The team holds a $15MM club option ($1MM buyout) for his services in 2012, but perhaps they'd prefer to use that money to re-sign Albert Pujols. Carpenter can veto any trade thanks to his ten-and-five rights.

GM John Mozeliak spoke this morning about adding pitching, not subtracting it, and the Cardinals intend to make a run in the NL Central even without Adam Wainwright. Should they fall out of contention, midseason rumors about Carpenter's availability will only grow louder. Rosenthal suspects that the Yankees would be potential suitors, something Joel Sherman of The New York Post mentioned this morning.

if they deal carpenter then yes they are, guranatee it means pujols will be traded. But the cardinals wont deal carp no way.

I'd think that would be the only way Pujols would accept a trade.. If they dealt everyone around him..

It would technically make it closer.. If he still wants the 300 mill total theres still some room to make up.

They won't trade Carpenter if they are in contention if they are out of it then they probably will because I don't see them resigning him after his contract is up, Pujols is 1st on the agenda.

So basically... their run scoring remains average and their pitching gets a lot worse...

I think they are screwed.

St. Louis being screwed after this season isn't a rumor... it's a fact. :shifty:

they are screwed if they resign pujols.

Ya. But if they don't, they have no offense (only were league average in runs last year), and if they do, they probably end up with no pitching.

And LaRussa and Duncan have expiring contracts, right?

of course. but if it is 10 years, 30 million.....than it wont be good.

Very true. The more I think about it, the more I am wanting them to sign Pujols and we can perhaps get Wainwright. I think that they will be able to resign 2 of Carp, Wainwright, and Pujols. But I feel like they will go with Pujols and Wainwright, which sucks for us, because I sure as hell don't want a 37 year old Carpenter.

I'm not sure I want Wainwright all that badly... he may not be the same after that surgery.

I don't give a shit about that surgery. I'll take him at 80%. He is a straight up beast. Plus, on the open market he won't be able to get as much, as he is coming off the injury.
