Starlin Castro will be the lead off hitter tonight vs rival, St. Louis Cardinals. He's hitting .369 in the #1 spot.

1-Casto
2-Barney
3-Ramirez
4-Pena
5-Byrd
6-Soto
7-Soriano
8-Colvin
9-Garza

I've been a fan of Castro batting leadoff for a while. Not a fan of the number 2 hitter. I really would like a left handed patient hitter (*cough*Kosuke Fukudom*cough*) that would allow Castro to fully develop his basestealing abilities since the power has yet to develop.

If fukudome didn't walk he wasn't getting on base.

Since when did Batting Average show often a guy was getting on base. Great Barney hits for a high average. He swings early and often in counts which destroys any chance of Castro running. He also is allergic to walks like most Cubs hitters. What is wrong with wanting a patient left handed hitter batting second since that is the ideal thing to have for a basestealer?

Because Fukudome was trash. Get Barney a young guy in there. Give him some experience. Tell the guy to be more patient at the plate

I love how the guy with one of the highest OBP on this team was trash, but a 25 year old with little upside is the future.

With no power and no ability to draw walks either. He is 25 years o9ld. Do you really think he is going to get any bigger or stronger? The odds of him learning to work the count begtter at this point are pretty low as well. He isn't useless but the idea that he is a competent top of the order hitter needs to be beaten out of the management and fans of this team.

Okay so your response to multiple reasons why Barney is a worse top of the order hitter than Fukudome is that I would be a worse manager than the current regime. Come on man. I've given what I would like to see and multiple reasons why I want it. If you want to actually debate me on what I am proposing let me know because I look forward to doing that.

lol fukudome is not trash

he was a servicable defender in the outfield and a good hitter(albeit he hits well early and always tails off but hes not a bad player...just a guy that needed to be moved going forward)

as for castro being leadoff, i applaud that..hopefully he sticks there for a while

Still waiting to hear why a patient left handed hitter isn't the ideal person to be batting in the second spot with a guy that is just developing his basestealing abilities.

Because we are paying Kosuke $12 million a year to bat . 270. Yea he is a little more patient but my point is, with the current state of the Cubs would you rather have..
1) a guy who wasn't going to come back next year bat #2 and take away experience from a young guy
2) Put a guy batting .293 in his rookie season in the 2hole. Get the kid experience. Help start building a new team.
