Cat Issues

I had a younger cat that would wake me up at 3, 4, 5 oclock in the morning, by loudly scampering around the room and on my bed (there were no mice or other animals). I think she meant to wake me, but just to play, not for food or a house fire.

I'd chastiser her, but that didn't dissuade her. Had to close my bedroom door with her out of the room. Then the door scratching and meowing started. Had to block the door with cans of paint, which worked fine, quiet separation achieved.

I would have been happy to have the cat sleep at the foot of the bed, or somewhere else in the room, but constantly waking me up was not acceptable.

Anybody ever come across that issue and have any luck with a solution?

Is the cat in to catnip?
Get it a catnip toy to play with and keep it in a cabinet. couple hours before bedtime, get it out, let the cat lose its mind for a while and maybe it will wear itself out?

This whole thing is written in past tense. Sculpt, did you kill the cat?

Step 1. Get a dog
Step 2. ???
Step 3. Profit
Well, I hope I don't piss anyone off by saying, it wasn't my cat, and I don't have cat any longer. I prefer dogs, but cats in the household seem to come up whether I like it or not. And I do like cats, but I don't seek them out.

Well actually Lou, she may have been horny, or otherwise riled up by outside cats, if she thought the cat was outside my bedroom window, she was hot to get a look.

I don't know if she could be worn out at 10pm to avoid a 5am wakeup call. She wanted to play 24/7, and she tended to ignore playing with cat toys by herself.

Yep, it's past tense. Cat went to a new owner. Family was pushing for a me to take one of their cats recently, I declined.

I'm not trying to be funny, the vet told a friend of mine who's cat was acting like you described to relieve it with a q-tip

I know you're very savvy, but I'm going to believe your friend is pulling a fast one on you.

How come you guys just don't fill your cat bowl with food before you go to bed? = p

Do you guys only feed your cat canned food in the morning (and maybe again at night)? I got to be able to leave dry food in their bowl.

Sculpt i was there when he was relieving the cat of pent up frustrations. Just make sure you dab a little baby oil on the Q-tip. Go easy at first until you get the hang of it .

Depends on the age of a the cat. An older one you should be able to wear out no problem. A kitten? Start playing with them at least an hour before bedtime every night. Much like a kid, you gotta wear them out. You gotta make sure you're playing with them right though. You don't just wave the cat toy around...make it act like a small prey animal and entice the cat to try to kill it. If you have a cat tree or something similar having the cat run up and down it is a great way to bleed off energy. The thing is you (or, given the sounds of your situation, someone in your family that actually wants the cat) has to be the brains behind the toy. IMHO if you get into the same situation with another cat you might want to make it a rule that it's someone else's job to play with the cat as-needed rather than pushing that responsibility onto you.

As for feeding them, our cats have an automatic feeder with dry food. They won't touch the wet stuff. It also helps they self-regulate their own feeding and neither have a weight issue. Hell ours tend to eat when they see us eating.

Yeah, we have to give him canned food because he has stomatitis and due to dry food, has had all but 4 of his teeth removed :-(
