Vinny Del Negro Fired: Sources
Formal Announcement About Bulls Head Coach Expected Tuesday

CHICAGO (CBS) ?The Vinny Del Negro death watch has come to its inevitable conclusion.

Sources tell CBS 2 Del Negro has in fact been fired as the Bulls head coach after two seasons, following meetings with owner Jerry Reinsdorf and other front-office members over the past few days.

The official announcement will come Tuesday. Reinsdorf will have to pony up to pay Del Negro's replacement -- a proven bench boss who's actually coached before.

The injury-plagued Bulls barely made the playoffs this year and lost to LeBron James and the Cavaliers in five games.

Del Negro was involved in an altercation March 30 with executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson. Accounts vary as to what occurred, but it reportedly centered on a disagreement over the playing time of then-injured forward Joakim Noah.

CBS 2's Ryan Baker contributed to this report.

I believe it when I see it. This article says "Reinsdorf will have to." JR doesn't have to do anything if JR doesn't want to spend. But I guess the assumption is being made because the Bulls hope to land a big FA, and to do that a proven coach would be helpful.

But when it comes to good ole JR something can always go wrong.

Of course because we all know JR is the cheapest man alive when you can spend more money on this team and have a better chance winning an nba championship going over the cap than him spending money on the sox when baseball you can never predict. If they were smart they would try and get Byron Scott or an actual coach that would coach before other than an assistant,i just hope they dont hire lawrence frank...please noooooooo.

I misread the headline on realgm as "Bulls To Set Fire To Del Negro" and had to stop and think about that one for a few seconds before blinking and taking another look ...

Flashbacks to Craig Hodges' wife trying to set him on fire way back when.

you know i may be the minority when i suggest the vinny del negro hiring wasn't the worst hiring. D-rose wasn't going to be a star his first few years in the league. We were a team in transition. We still are. You dont go out and get a phil jackson for a team in transition. you get a guy to play your young players that you can fire later down the road.

i'm cool with both the hiring and the firing.

Jake and Josh Del Negro's dad just got fired and got thrown out into the cold.

Are you all happy? Are you finally satisfied?

While you guys are celebrating the termination of his livelihood, he's probably having a really bad day because he just got fired. I really wonder how we would like it if people were calling for our jobs the same way many Bulls fans were calling for his. The shoes always uncomfortable when we walk a mile or two in it.

At 82-82 Vinny was a .500 coach here and I still don't see why all this mess was his fault. He didn't buy the groceries. He just came here to cook the groceries and I think he's a fine chef.

I'm certain we haven't seen the last of him though. He'll be back as a coach somewhere. I hope he's able to get another opportunity because this guy can coach.

I still think John Paxson was the one who needed to go and NOT Del Negro but what do I know? I'm just a fan.

Yeah but if the base salary is 2 million you figure in taxes and this and that and it's a far cry from 2 million.

Right. Worst case scenario, he will get paid a million dollars next year. My god. how awful. At least the rest of us enjoy at will employment status. You know he's a regular oliver twist. my heart goes out to him.

For a guy who's freeloading his way around the world on a cruise ship, I think you should really think before making asinine comments like this.
