"Chasing My Dream"
Chapter 1: A Rough Day

(Scene takes place at Freeport High School, home of the Pretzels)

*School bell rings. It's fifth hour now, and Chad is on his way to lunch. Chad is not just any other student at Freeport High School. He's the captain of the Pretzel baseball team, and is expected to be drafted the upcoming year. Freeport has made it to the state championship game, which will be played tomorrow afternoon in Champaign. Chad is expected to be the starting pitcher for the Pretzels, and has carried his team down on their road to state. On his way to the cafeteria, Chad spots his girlfriend talking to another boy from school. And by talking, we mean making out with. Chad investigates.*

Chad: *Running* What the hell is going on here?

Morgan: Ehh..nothing Chad. We were just talking.

Chad: Talking my ass. I saw you with your tongue down his throat...what the **** Morgan?

Michael: Dude calm down..

Chad: Morgan we'll deal with this in a second... *Gets in Michael's face* **** you doin' with my girl man...

Michael: She came after m--

Chad: *Throws punch*

*Chad connects on a mean left hook to Michael's jaw. Michael gets up and throws himself onto Chad, as the two plummet to the school floor. Soon, a group of students surround the two, as the fight is broken up by Mr. Schneider, the school's Life Science teacher. The boys are dragged into the principals office.*

Principal: What was this all about boys?

Chad: *points to Michael* This guy was all over my girlfriend in the hallway..

Michael: Dude I told you, she came to me.

Principal: Alright guys. Calm down. You guys know our policies about fighting. You're both going to be suspended for the minimum of five days. You'll both be given your homework for the next five days, and will spend those at home, hopefully thinking about what a foolish idea this was.

Chad: What about baseball?

Principal: I'm afraid you won't be playing in tomorrow's State Championship. *Chad's head goes down* Theres nothing I can do. You should've thought of this before you threw the punch. Now you two go get your things. Your parents are on their way to pick you up.

*Chad heads to his locker. He rips all the pictures of he and Morgan off his wall, and throws them onto the floor. What a disaster. The day before the most important game of his life, he finds his girlfriend cheating on him with another guy. Now he must sit out, and watch his team play under the lights in Champaign*

"Chasing My Dream"
Chapter 2: Hidden Gem

(Scene takes place at Freeport High School, in girls gym locker room)

*Morgan, Chad's girlfriend currently, was seen fooling around with another guy in the hallway. Chad onlooked and fought Michael, leaving him suspended for tomorrow's state championship game. Morgan heads to gym class. As she gets dressd, her phone rings*

Morgan: *Answers phone* Hello?....Yea, it's done....Yep. He fought the guy....I'm pretty sure he's going to be suspended tomorrow. No problem....You're welcome. Now when can I get my money?....Alright I'll be there. Bye. *She throws her phone into her purse*

*A girl named Rachel overhears Morgan's conversation as she dresses next to her for gym class*

Rachel: *Adressing Morgan* That sounded important.

Morgan: *nervous* Ahh not really. Just talking to a girl I sold a couple purses to.

Rachel: Oh...alright.

*The two girls dress for gym and head out of the locker room. Rachel knows Morgan is up to something. The girls play kickball, and soon enough the bell rings, and the day is over for Freeport High School. The students all rush to their cars and buses, eager to get home for whatever awaits them.*

"Chasing My Dream"
Chapter 3: It All Clicks

(Scene takes place at Freeport High School, in hallway before class starts)

*Yesterday was one to be forgotten for Chad Fellers, who was caught fighting in the hallway the day before the most important game of his life. His girlfriend at the time, Morgan was overheard talking on the phone to a mysterious man about recieving money for making someone fight by Rachel, a girl in her gym class. Rachel is talking with some of her friends when Randy, the school's starting third basemen walks up to the group.*

Randy: Wow, you guys hear? Chad can't play tonight. He got in a fight with some Michael kid about Morgan yesterday, so we gotta go to Champaign without him.

*It clicks to Rachel that Morgan was talking about Chad in the locker room. She now has a choice whether to let it slide, or tell Chad about what she heard.*

Scotty: Wow dude, that's ***. So whose gonna pitch for us than?

Randy: No idea man. All I know is that we're gonna need a miracle to win now. Of all the times to fight a guy...the day before the Championship...really?

Scotty: *sighs* I know....tell me about it.

*The day goes by, and all Rachel can do is think about what she's going to tell Chad after school. The final bell rings, and she walks anxiously to the student parking lot. She opens the door to her 2005 Chevy Capri, and makes her way to Chad's house. She gets out and rings the doorbell.*

Chad's Mother: *Answers the door* Can I help you?

Rachel: Is Chad home?

Chad's Mother: Yea, I'll have to warn you. He's not in the best of moods. Let me go get him real quick though.

Rachel: *mumbles to herself* Hopefully this will help that.

Chad: Oh hey Rachel....whatchu need?

Rachel: *nervous* I've got something that you probably want to know hear....

Chad: *curious* What's that?

Rachel: Well, you know your girlfri-- well ex-girlfriend Morgan? *He nods his head* Well....I overheard her talking in the locker room yesterday about how she got you to fight, and that she's getting money for it. I think she meant for you to fight Michael, so you couldn't play tonight in Champaign.

Chad: *silent* Wow....could that really be true?

Rachel: I believe so. I'm sorry, but I had to tell you. *She turns to leave*

Chad: *snaps out of it* Hey...

Rachel: *turns around* Yea?

Chad: Thanks for letting me know...

Rachel: No problem. *Turns to leave again*

Chad: *quickly* Oh and also Rachel?

Rachel: Huh?

Chad: *small smirk* I'm gonna need your help with something....

"Chasing My Dream."
Chapter 4: Surprise, Surprise

(Scene takes place on Chad's front steps, after Rachel delivers the news that Morgan set Chad up to fight so he couldn't play in the Championship game)

Rachel: *chuckles* What could that possibly be?

Chad: *small smile* Well, I've got to get her back now, you know...

Rachel: Ahh...I see. You want me to play a part in this little game.

Chad: Exxxactly. *Heading inside* Now, we've got to come up with some ideas.

*The two head inside, and put on their thinking caps trying to find a way to revenge on Morgan.*

Chad: *laughing* I've got an idea...

Rachel: And that would be?

Chad: Well, I have a bunch of stuff at her house. You know, like jackets, a couple baseball things, and some other shit. I'm gonna head over there before I head to Champaign tonight to watch our team play. I could mess with some of her stuff if I wanted to...

Rachel: How about her shampoo?

Chad: Ahh...nice. I like the way you think.

Rachel: *laughs* Throw a little nair in there...that'd show her.

Chad: Perfect. Alright, thanks for the idea. I've gotta get going though. The bus leaves in like an hour and a half.

Rachel: *heads for the door* Good luck.

Chad: Thanks but I won't need it.

"Chasing My Dream"
Chapter 5: Revenge?

(Scene takes place at Chad's ex girlfriend, Morgan's house)

*Chad pulls into Morgan's driveway. He looks up at the huge white surface of her house. Morgan's Dad is a surgeon. He is married to a trophy wife, who stay's at home taking care of the kids. Chad walks up and rings the doorbell. He hears footsteps coming. He thinks Morgan doesn't know that he knows about her little plan. He is right.*

Morgan: *emotionless* Oh....hey.

*Chad would love to tell her about how he knows her plan, and completely blow his revenge plan by calling her every name in the book, but he stays calm.*

Chad: Yea...hey. I've gotta get my stuff from here. I've got some baseball shit I think I left in your room.

Morgan: Really...so that's it? We're done?

Chad: *sighs* Pretty much. *Starts walking inside*

Morgan: *gets in his way* No, not pretty much. We need to ta--

Chad: *interrupts her* Please, just let me get my shit, and get outta here. I've got to catch the bus so I can watch our team play.

Morgan: Oh...fine...but we're not done talking about this.

Chad: *mumbles* Whatever you say, Morgan.

*Chad goes inside, and heads for Morgan's room. Morgan follows him, as expected. He picks up his old varsity jacket from Junior year, and throws it over his shoulder.*

Chad: You won't be needing that anymore would you?

Morgan: Chad...I don't even like Michael like that...

Chad: Too late. You can't take shit like that back...I gotta take a piss. *leaves room*

*Chad gets to the families main bathroom, and empties his pocket. He has a small bottle of nair, that is just right to do the trick in his grasp. He opens the shower curtain, trying to make as little noise as possible. There are a number of shampoo bottles resting on the window cill, but only two feminine ones. Lavender Lace and Berries N' Cream. He thinks about what Morgan's hair used to smell like. He quickly makes his choice. Berries...He opens the lid, and empties the Nair into the shampoo bottle. He ends his show with a flush of the toilet, and a quick rinse of the hands to make it obvious he was using the bathroom. Chad's revenge plan is finished*

Chad: Well, I think it's about time I got out of here, eh? It's been fun, Morgan. *He heads for the exit*

Morgan: *calls out* Wait!

*Chad turns back*

Morgan: You forgot your lucky ball...*tosses him his first homerun ball of his junior year*

Chad: That's it? *chuckles a little* My lucky ball...Well, see ya.

*Chad leaves with a small smirk upon his face. His plan went perfectly. He can't wait til' Morgan shows up at school with small bald spots on her head. He thinks of possible nick names the school will come up with*

Chad: *to himself laughing a little* Cue ball...Mrs. Clean...This should be great....

*Chad heads back to his house, and gets ready to head to Champaign to watch the Freeport Pretzels play in the state championship game. Too bad he won't be on the field.*

"Chasing My Dream"
Chapter 6: The Big Game

(Scene takes place in parking lot, where Freeport Pretzel's gather to travel to Champaign to play in the State Championship baseball game)

*After leaving Morgan's house, Chad heads home for a second, grabs his jersey, and takes a look at his other equipment. He won't need that tonight. He throws the black and orange jersey over his three-quarter sleeve shirt, and heads back for his car. He can only hope the Pretzels pull off a miracle win without him. Soon, he arrives to the school parking lot, where the Pretzel bus is ready to go.*

Coach: How's it going, kid?

Chad: Ehh..alright coach....just wish I could play tonight.

Coach: Don't we all? We coulda used you out there on the mound for sure.

Chad: *sighs* I wish...well, good luck. Hopefully we can pull it out.

*Chad and his coach both know winning without Chad on the mound is a longshot at best, but both put on a act, and force themselves to believe they have somewhat a chance to bring home the first place trophy. Chad heads to the back of the bus, where he usually sits.*

Alex: Whattup Chaddy?

Chad: *calmly* Not much, man. Fuckin' *** I can't play though.

Alex: I know. I think we'll have to pitch Isaiah. Hopefully he doesn't get rocked. *Laughs*

Chad: Yea. You guys better make my trip out here at least worthwhile.

*The team settles down, and gets their game faces ready. They finally arrive in Champaign around 5, and are all ready for seven to come around, when the first pitch will be thrown. They all get out to look at beautiful Centennial Park. They all think in their heads about how some of the best Illinois baseball players have stepped foot on the field. They head to their dugout, and get ready for whatever fate brings them.*

Chad: Guess I'm in the dugout with you today, coach?

Coach: *smiles* Unfortunately. They won't let you warm up with the team, or anything.

Chad: So..what's the lineup you got going?

*The two go over the lineup while the team stretches. Chad's hope for the team is smally growing for the night. Soon enough, the National Anthem is heard, and the game is underway.*

Coach: Alright fellas, this is what you've all played for your entire lives. It's your time to shine. Big players make big plays in big moments. Be that big player today, all of you. Hands in.....let's let Chad lead this one.

Chad: *laughs* Alright, Pretzels on three....*team together* One...Two...Three..PRETZELS!

*Chad sits down next to coach to watch whatever the world brings them. The Pretzels bat first, and are the away team. The game goes by much faster than Chad thought it would. He was not used to sitting on the bench, and thought it would feel like an eternity sitting on the bench for seven full innings. At the end of six, the Pretzels find themselves down by two runs, 7-5. They were down to their final three outs, with their eight, nine, and one batters due up. If a miracle were to happen, it would be right about now. The umpire calls for batter up, and the seventh inning is underway.*

Chad: C'mon Frankie!...Just get on board.

*The Pretzels catch a big break, when Frankie is hit by a pitch on a 1-2 count. The opposing team's pitcher, unhappy with himself, throws two quick strikes to Kyle, the Pretzel's number nine batter. He ends Kyle's hopes of being a hero with an 0-2 curveball low and away. Two batters later the Pretzels found themselves with Jack, the team's number three hitter for today, up to the plate with two outs, and two on board. Chad thinks to himself that he would be batting if he was in the lineup right now. Chad batted in the three spot all season long for the Pretzels. First pitch...Jack takes ball one....second pitch....Jack takes inside for strike one...The entire Pretzel team are on their feet, hoping to witness a miracle. Third pitch....Jack swings...The ball is headed for deep left field. The crowd roars. The Pretzels all watch as the left fielder gets on his horse and heads for the fence. The ball is carrying, and the Pretzels believe they've just taken the lead. The left fielder looks up as the ball comes his way, and.....reel's it in at the warning track. The Pretzels look on as the opposing team jumps up and down in joy, and pile onto each other near the pitcher's mound. The Pretzels have just lost the State Championship, in heart breaking fashion. The Pretzels gather in right field, as they normally do after games. They usually were upbeat and happy, but tonight, they all had their heads down, wishing they could've pulled this one out.*

Coach: Well guys, it's been a great year. Who thought that three months ago, we'd end up here, in Champaign. At the State Championship game? Listen, we've had our ups and downs this year. *majority of team looks at Chad* But I for one, am really happy I've gotten to coach you guys this year. This is going to go down as one of, if not my favorite team in all my time I've been here. We've had so many good times, and we shouldn't end the year with our heads down. We've done well, and you guys will all go on from here better men. So let's pack it up, and head back home...with our heads up.

*Chad slowly walks back to the bus. The bus ride home is the most quiet he's ever had during his four years on varsity. He lays back and listens to his MP3 all the way home. Too angry to fall asleep, he thinks about how the game would've turned out if he had been on the field. But hey, at least Chad can look forward to seeing a semi-hairless Morgan at school on Monday. That's if she washes her hair over the weekend.*
