"The #Bears now have $91.9M allocated to 37 players on their 2016 salary cap, an est. $60M in space to work with. http://bit.ly/1LYgwWc "

Yes, the Chicago Bears did spend a lot of money overall on Jared Allen that probably wasn't worth the results that were given. However, what's done is done and complaining is futile so all we can do is move forward. That being said, thanks to Spotrac, here is a look at the Bears 2016 Salary cap and where the club stands after the Jared Allen trade alone.

You can view the entire list here and where the entirety of the tied-up money is going. Now, the Jon Bostic move is quite different. His 2016 money is $311,509 but from the Dead Cap, meaning that money will be paid to him regardless. However, the Bears now have two additional 6th round picks from today's trades and plenty of money to spend if they would like to grab a free agent or two. Look for the team to continue to find ways to clear up funds and build the team through the draft instead of buying multiple free agent contracts.

Tea Leaves suggest we are giving up the season and just managing through. Trade Forte? Ok.. He's not going to give us a hometeam discount since we aren't contenders yet. If I were Forte, unless the Bears paid top dollar, he's gone. And he deserves top dollar 100%. I'd be sad to see him go but happy for him (like I know him or something)..

We are cleaning fucking house and I love it. I don't think you put Jeffrey on the block though. He's young and when healthy one of the best young WR's in the game.

Thanks for the info. Is it just me, or does that seem like a lot of cap-room?

More than enough to give Forte 12-15 million guaranteed.

We can use the franchise tag on Jeffery or Forte. I don't know why everyone is so quick to discard one of the best running backs in our long history. I would start contract extension talks since we're tanking this season anyway and see what type of deal he's look for (years wise).

Pace is going to have every opportunity to pick his players next offseason. Imo, he's setting himself up for a boom or bust rebuild. Lots of money and draft picks. It will be an interesting few years.

Looked over the contracts today and I would expect with some easy cuts that the Bears could have close to 70 million in cap space.

I know they talk about the draft.

But they will have to spend to get to the salary floor.

I would expect them to be active in free agency, especially if they are picking 1 and are going to take a QB who may not play right away.

Or a serviceable guard instead and keep the three young running backs

Forget serviceable, for the 7-8 million he will want the Bears could sign the top OG in free agency. Iupati and Franklin went for that annually.

No one wants to or is eager to get rid of Matt Forte, but everyone is quite aware of the reality of the situation. The reality being he's a 30-year-old RB that is going to ask for a big contract. Forte is not the future and the. Bears need to focus on the future. He deserves a chance to win and the Bears need to spend their money elsewhere. Forte has been a workhorse and mostly a class act, but it's simply time to move on and spend the money elsewhere.

No he won't be easily replaced and he has been great for the Bears, but the way the NFL is structured he won't be here beyond this year.

After this season, free agents are not going to want to come to Chicago unless it's for an overpriced contract.

I think the smart move is to try to trade Forte now even if for a 5th round draft pick. I would also heavily explore trading Jeffery in the offseason. Bears need lots of good, young players on rookie contracts if they want a quick turnaround. No reason to be paying top dollar to players on a bad team. Fill the gaps with veterans on 1 year deals for the time being or 2 year deals that are all front loaded with the guaranteed money so they can be cut if need be.

Only way this doesn't turn into a 5 plus year rebuild is for Pace to start accumulating multiple picks in rounds 1-3 over the next 2 to 3 seasons.

Come on. You just can't assume finding replacements is so easy. Losing is a mentality. Forte deserves to be a Bear and we need him. I honestly don't get all this talk. I will pipe down and hope for the best because clearly I'm crazy.

I said the same thing earlier. They are going to have to really over-pay or more likely settle for crap that no one else wants.

I expect Ted Phillips to take charge of the beans right away like a good President of a company would do:(

And pray tell how is that going to happen? Where do those multiple picks in rds 1-3 happen?
