Payton was a great player, but the Bears didn't accomplish a whole lot during his career. If people are bashing Peyton Manning's postseason accomplishments, then I'm not sure what to make of Payton's. They won in 85 because of the defense.
Luckman's career was the high watermark for the franchise.
Agree with Luckman and his 4 titles, but I just don't see how you can not have the most beloved player in franchise history, stats (titles)be damned...

Walt Harris, Mark Carrier, Donnell Woolford, and Carlos Mainord.

In other words our 1996 defensive backfield superstars and their all star secondary coach - Mr. Mainord.

Any of these without Butkus is a travesty. My original list included players I saw play so no Luckman etc. fo me. It's difficult enough ranking players over eras when you do see them play. Not wrong to do so and a bit of a disservice not to, just not for me.
