The jubilation of winning the Stanley Cup has begun to come to a close. Over the weekend, with the 3rd annual Chicago Blackhawks Convention congesting the city streets, many could only speak of the goaltending situation at hand.

With the Antti Niemi arbitration hearing taken place on Thursday, many at the convention held their breath for most of Saturday preparing for a ruling.

Interesting stuff. If he did leave that money on the table, Zito really didn't do his client any service in this process.

Agree....Zito is taking a huge gamble here. Nobody has room for a starting goalie for 2.75 per year

I agree and think that they will both regret their "greed over team" approach. He could have been with the Blackhawks for a long productive career but will struggle to just find another team at this point.

Bowman said during conference call that they offered many contracts to Niemi, so I see this as Zito's fault more than Niemi

With Hammer I understood signing that offer sheet because it was gauranteed money, now Niemi has to wade into a free agent market that isn't good for any goaltender. Hell, there is an outside chance that he could end up back in Finland (very small but still a chance).
