Its funny. When Jordan scored 59 points on the Pistons that prompted them to adapt a style of play that redefined what a foul was. It redefined what a foul was because they made so much brutish contact that they forced the referees to make a choice. The referees could either call a foul like they normally do and stop the game every 10 seconds, or, they could call the same number of fouls but only call the more severe ones. They chose the latter. The point is that Jordan was heavily responsible for the Pistons 2 titles both in terms of them developing this style of play and in terms of the league tolerating it.
What made Jordan so awesome was he knew when he went into the lane against the Pistons, he was going to get annihilated, but he never backed down. Jordan never flinched. This is one of the things I remember most about this era. The Pistons would play like this but Jordan would still get 30 pts fairly routinely. And this was in an era where handchecking was allowed, unlike now.
But I digress. So, you basically have the Pistons two titles that are linked to Jordan, you have the first 3 peat, the 2 interim years where another team won only because Jordan was playing baseball, and then you have the the last 3 peat. Thats 10 straight seasons where Jordan heavily influenced who won the NBA title.
I get sick of the comparisons that people make. I also hate how people seem to think Jordan was about sneakers and gatorade commercials. If you want to know about Jordan, watch him go into the lane against the Pistons knowing he was going to get annihilated.
Its hard to watch the NBA now because people are too fast and loose with the Jordan comparisons, especially Mark Jackson, who was one of several Jordan victims.
