How might this affect the Wolves attendance?

Considering Chicago hates the Vancouver Canucks, it is a safe bet their attendance would go down. How much, I don't know.

Meh, I don't think it matters. It's Blackhawks fans who hate Vancouver. And if Hawks fans are going to Wolves games instead of Hawks games, I think they still go no matter whose affiliate it is as they're receiving the same entertainment value they've always gotten (when they were the baby Thrash - sorta).

If anything is hurting the Wolves, it's the fans who have sworn never to give Dollar Bill another cent of their hard earned money which caused a flip in allegiance to the Wolves and have recently returned to the Madhouse due to the Hawks's recent success.

It should also be mentioned that the Thrash have not been happy with the Wolves as their affiliate. Instead of playing guys to develop, the Wolves have been playing a lot of career minor guys who give them the best chance to win. If you remember, the Wolves's mantra was "winning hockey in Chicago" (a smart play during the dark days of the Hawks). Granted, Wolves supporters might add that there haven't been a whole lot of good drafting in Atlanta and a lot of management turnover. Also, the two teams play two different systems.

On their current roster are 9 players they've drafted and the number of games they've played for the Wolves (not exactly glowing numbers):

Burmistrov - 0 games
Kane - 0 games
Klingberg - 0 games
Slater - 7 games
Little - 34 games
Bogosian - 5 games
Enstrom - 0 games
Zubarev - 0 games
Pavelec - 92 games

Both sides are probably happy with the change.

Thats exactly what they do, the Wolves usually are stacked with veteran AHLers and former NHLers.

You can't deny the AHL greatness of one Darren Haydar, he must still remain top Wolf

Man that is interesting; I would have thought that the affiliate agreement would have given the NHL team the right to place their own coaching staff.

When KC was the top affiliate for the Sharks (way back when the Sharks started out), they did that - their head coach was Kevin Constantine.

Btw, Claude Julien played defense on the Blades' initial team (which was the 90-91 team which was an independent team - they were -well they were really bad.).

Incidentally - since we are talking minor league hotshots (and maybe guys that did nothing in the NHL) -- David Bruce ... one season scored over 60 goals- think it was with the Rivermen, he got signed (iirc) by the Sharks their first season -and never made it with them even as an expansion team.

Some teams do have an agreement that gives power to the NHL team. I imagine the two leagues have left it up to teams themselves to come to agreement. Quid pro quo.

To clarify, what I was meaning is that if what you were saying is the case (and I am not saying that it isn't) - my reaction to it, would be what were the Thrashers front office thinking? For the exact same reasons you mentioned; allowing the minor league team to disadvantage the development of their players (which, to me -admittedly someone who isn't ever going to be employed by a front office, would seem to be counterproductive, and maybe they should have tried a little harder to actually get a real deal...).

I guess there is a reason that they have had a lot of problems... the Curly Howard method of hockey management. :)

:yep: they weren't thinking ahead for themselves when they ratified the agreement.

I wouldn't mind one bit to see Vancouver run into similar issues. It'll be interesting to see if Messmer plays ball.

Well yes, it sort of is a life affirming thing to find people that are that stupid yet still able to find employment. . . there's still hope for everyone :D .
