Tonight is the debut of “The Chicago Code,” a drama created by former Rockfordian Shawn Ryan about cops and corruption in the Windy City.

The 13-episode series airs at 8 p.m. Mondays on Fox.

Ryan, a Rockford native and 1984 Keith Country Day School graduate, also is executive producer of “The Chicago Code.”

A People magazine review gave “The Chicago Code” its top rating of four stars. Register Star Movie Man Will Pfeifer said “The Chicago Code” characters are solid, and the city itself is the star of the show.

Ryan was also the executive producer for "The Shield" and "The Unit".

The previews made it look pretty cheesy.

The last cop show I watched on a regular bases was NYPD Blue and that lost me after the 3rd or 4th season.

Ditto man! But I think I was outta there after Season 3 and was like, other than some ass shots why the hype? Every season was the same and the characters always made the same decisions and mistakes. Eh, in any event "The Wire" and "Hill Street Blues" are my favorite cop shows of all time.

Redeye reviewer gave it a pretty glowing recommendation. Not sure if it was "homer" induced, but he did mention that it does seek to pry itself away from some of the conventions of the typical police serial. I might check out tonight's but I have to agree that it would have to be pretty damn good for me to watch on a regular basis.

I watched the Shield for the first two seasons then lost interest but I always enjoyed the Unit and often find myself watching the reruns. Shawn has built quite the name for himself with those two series alone and I would

even go on to say that they were big hits. With that being said I am going to DVR the series just based on his

past success.

Not to mention putting the spotlight on corruption for Chicago. Keeping in mind it is only a tv series and that

it appears the corruption in this series is going to be the Irish mob.

If you haven't seen the shield, then don't comment until you've seen this show. I'm looking forward to it, but as with the shield you'll probably have to give it a couple of episode. The Shield is right up there with the Wire in cop shows. NYPD blue... meh.

They need to work on how Chicago cops talk. Sounds like a hybrid between new york and hillbilly.

Man that was a great damn show. CURSE YOU NBC YOU PRICKS!! *shakes fist*

You know season two just started on TNT right?

anywho... everyone who saw the Chicago Code last night, give it a few more before you make the decision, you can't forget that it was basically a pilot that you just watched, Hopefully they'll fix the accents, or better yet, take them away all together. After everyone is established they won't have to do the shitty voiceovers either. Hopefully it turns twisting and gritty like The Shield did, but so far it's just everything you already knew, and very predictable. I said to my wife the second the gang leader said something to the driver in the interrogation that he was going to die. Then right at the end I said here it comes, and boom. Dead. And it was Gibbons not the gangs. Count it.

I think they are replaying season 2, since it was supposed to be on TNT over a year ago and it was my understanding that the show is dead after season 2 anyway. I dunno, fucking TNT, put it back on NBC.

No, TNT replayed Season one a while back, and they just started season two two episodes ago. I haven't heard any plans to not renew it.TNT is a much better place for it, you can already tell subtle changes. NBC blows. Everything they touch they ruin. Only good shows on there are the ones too big to be fucked with.

I had DVR'd the first episode. While predictable so far I am enjoying the characters being established and am looking forward to new episodes.

Ryan's previous series such as Shield and Unit typically have multipls situtions going one at the same time. For those who saw the first episode I am sure you can guess like myself what the secondary stories will be.

Season 3 of Southland is airing right now on TNT. I think it's better being on TNT than NBC... It gives the writers more freedom to make it more gritty. I think some of the problems with the Chicago Code stem from the fact it's on Fox, where The Shield was on FX. You put the Chicago Code on FX, and you'll have more freedom to make it shine.

The intro is fucking awesome.

I love trying to figure out where the locations are in the various scenes. For instance, at the star memorial in episode two, that's actually not a police building... It's CTA headquarters on Jefferson and Lake. You can see in one shot "Chicago Transit Authority" on the revolving glass doors, and the address 180 North Jefferson across the street. I go to Dunkin Donuts next door almost every day. It's cool too, because in the desktop wallpapers on the Fox site, they shot the pictures a block from my apartment. I think I remember when they had the street blocked off doing it, because I couldn't get home my normal route and had to take the long way around.

Nearly all the police officers in this show as actual CPD filling in as extras.

Even if it's not 100% correct, and a bit cheezy, I look forward to every week. It probably will get better, and it's nice to see a show based in Chicago using real CPD cars and uniforms for once. I'm getting tired of shows in NYC using the NYPD.

I could see them having the show for a season or so on Fox and then moving it to FX to give it that

extra punch. As you stated, it is exactly what happened to The Shield. The Unit never went to that

extreme even though the show was about Special Forces.

The show is fine so far, I hope that it outgrows this pilot stage soon. The dialouge is killing me. How many fucking times are they going to say "coppers" or "I always wanted to be police". And Beals sounds like she's trying to do a Palin impression. Wish it was on Cable, but hopefully they drop the voiceovers and get to the nitty gritty, more gritty than nitty. I do like that they are not too predictable yet. I didn't catch that it would be the disgruntled employee. I'll keep watching just for the novelty. The show is good enough, hope they get it ironed out.
