I know your comment was made in jest, but I don't think it really matters where you go anymore, as this seems to be par for the course nowadays.

I was kidding, kind of. There are definitely problems everywhere, but Illinois and California really seem to be atop of the mountain of shit when it comes to state governments being in fiscal trouble.

I know that this is talking about Chicago specifically, but that brings the rest of the state down with it. Companies are already fleeing the border into Indiana (just like from Cali to Nevada) because of the tax advantages.

And just think, if Daley had gotten his Olympics, that number would've tripled.

The Olympics are more of an opportunity to build and grow(generate revenue) than a burden on the local economy. But I might have to agree, the means that the City Council wanted to go about funding the events would have made things worse, however, they could have just as easily turned it into a massive win for Chicago.

Yeah, the 2004 Olympics did wonders for Greece.

Greece is in a welfare state deeper than ours. So of course they weren't able to turn the Olympics into "gold". LOL

Actually yes. And the revenue compounds over time. Kind of like some movies don't make back their money at the box-office, but make make a boatload back in licensing and DVD sales(and a lot of movies make money every-which way). It has only been recently, that we are seeing more Olympic hosts lose money overall, even though Beijing broke a record for actual revenue when it was all set and done, they continue to benefit from the landmarks and venues prepared for the games.

Greece's total economy has been a joke for quite some time. The sad thing is that their model isn't far off our model within the economic spectrum, along with so many other nations. But Greece would have faced their collapses(yes plural) with or without the Olympics. In fact, they were targeted to host the Olympics as a means to attempt to stimulate their economy. If anything, the Olympic Games may have delayed their collapse by a few months.

Time to remove some politicians. Time to put toll money to good use. Time to destroy the union mentality of Chicago. All of those factors will help greatly.
