The Chicago White Sox and left-handed pitcher Chris Sale have agreed on a five-year contract extension worth $32.5 million with two options years that could bring the deal up to $60 million, the team announced on Thursday.
Sale will receive $32.5 million guaranteed over the first five years of the deal with club options for the next two years. The White Sox hold options for 2018 at $12.5 million and for 2019 at $13.5 million. If either option is declined, Sale will receive a $1 million buyout.
Sale will receive $850,000 in 2013, $3.5 million in 2014, $6.0 million in 2015, $9.15 million in 2016 and $12 million in 2017. He was scheduled to earn $600,000 in 2013.
Last season as a starter, Sale posted a record of 17-8, an ERA of 3.05, 192 strikeouts and represented the White Sox in the All-Star Game. He also finished 3rd in AL Cy Young Award race.
Good move! Never too early to start saving up on the future. Now speaking of that, we might need to stock up on pitching in the future once the older players leave
