So this nut job is still going ahead with his plan to burn 200 Korans and cause a massive shit storm. The President, Hillary Clinton, David Petreus and Sarah Palin have all asked him to stop. But he says he must retaliate against radical muslims. He has the right to burn anything he wants its free expression. But this could be a blood bath. Ironically we are in the same position Muslims were put in after 9/11. Having to explain the actions of a few crazy Americans that make us look bad.

I know but today the President directly asked him to stop and leaders in India, Pakistan and Indonesia formally asked Obama to block the burning. So I figured that it deserved its own thread now. Here are Obama's comments.

I saw an interview on TV yesterday morning with somebody from local Gainseville, FL law enforcement (a sheriff's deputy, I believe) and she said that while bonfires and other fires are permissible, Books, because of the ink and other materials, are toxic and there is a prohibition against burning them. She said there is a plan in place to stop the book burning if Jones attempts to do it.



BTW, don't let bookjones know that i said "books... are toxic."

Not to worry. Fred Phelps is now going to burn the Koran on Sept. 11th. I'm surprised it took him this long to get in on the publicity! According to his web site, he'll also be burning the American flag. Might as well kill two birds with one stone I suppose.

Yes, the Westboro Baptist Church. He has a history of hate speech, mostly against homosexuals but I suppose he can spare some time for muslims as well. Phelps and his family are lunatics in every sense of the word. You can bet Phelps won't be talked out of doing this.

Unfortunately Phelps creates a lot of media attention with his antics, and they've already picked up on the story. In my mind, the media has helped create Fred Phelps by giving him the notoriety he craves. I can't help but wonder if he would do half the things he does, if there were no news cameras to document it.

I still have my old paper and went and looked it up. His group was the one that protested at the Matthew Shepherd's funeral and even at some school in Oakland for doing a play about Matthew Shepherd. I am so glad my parents raised me with an open heart and open mind and instilled in me that being different doesn't mean being wrong.

Wait a minute, I thought he said 9/11 was because of the "****" not the muslims? I mean by that logic, al qaeda is like god's angel of death.

When I lived in Kansas City (about 80 miles from Phelps Topeka, KS church) a local theatre was having their annual *** film festival and, of course, Phelps was protesting it across the street. On the other side of the street was a very large group of people drowning out Phelps small group by chanting loudly, "Red Rover, Red Rover, let Fred come over."



It was hilarious!
