NEW YORK -- New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe will lead the MLS squad against Manchester United in the league's All-Star Game next month.
Backe was picked because he wouldn't miss any training time with his team, as Red Bull Arena is hosting the match.
The 59-year-old Backe was a finalist for 2010 coach of the year honors after the Red Bulls matched the best one-season improvement in MLS history, going from last place in 2009 to first in the Eastern Conference.
The All-Star Game is July 27 in Harrison, N.J.
