Well, why are so many people worried about Ben Johnson choosing another team instead of the Bears?

Because they have Bears PTSD or are boomers who don't understand Zoom Screenings are how first round interviews are done now.

I'll admit I was also all over the huge list until I found out it was all being done virtually - then it made sense to me. Anyone who has had to go through a hiring process in the last 10 years should be familiar with it. Its essentially more of an initial screening than a full blown interview.

I know how much you hate rumors, but supposedly Carrol didn't impress in his HC interview. They liked his plan for Caleb, but his staff he'd put together was inferior to the staffs other candidates said they could get.

I know we are talking DC and not HC, but if Carrol can't find good people to surround himself with on the defensive side, it might not be the best hire there.
Dear lord, do you think Carrol is an offensive minded coach like Ron Rivera too?

So let’s just say it goes like this:

Saints: McCarthy
Jets: Glenn
Raiders: Johnson
Jags: Brady
Cowboys: who knows

Who do the Bears hire? Monken I guess?

The guy whos had terrible defenses every year in detroit besides this year?
he has made lemonade out of lemons, until recently he didn't have shit to work with, and has been fundamental in developing what he did have. That, and the players love and respect him.

Then what do the Bears do?
Let’s just wait until coaches actually start getting hired then we go from there.

McCarthy is a better coach than Vrabel and most folks had him #1 or #2 on their wish lists.

12 of 18 years with a top 10 scoring offense, and 11 of 18 years in the top 10 for yards, and 15 of 18 years in the top half of the league. He's a solid and stable choice for Caleb's progression, and we wouldn't have to worry about an OC leaving and disrupting things. He's my 2nd choice after Johnson at this point.

Ben Johnson spurning the Bears for the Raiders would be hilarious. The meltdown that would ensue…GENERATIONAL.

Not really. I would immediately forget about Ben Johnson because his career would basically be over, just a matter of when not if.

It’s all about Caleb. If he gets good then the next coach will look good. Doesn’t matter who it is half the league runs the same plays anyways.

I get that it would be a troll's wet dream.

But logically?

Why would Ben Johnson go somewhere else if he strongly desires to work with Caleb Williams and already has the pieces in Chicago to run his offense, minus the offensive line?

Seriously.

They have what they need to run Ben's offense at every position minus the offensive line.

There's a reason why Ben was looking at the Bears offense when the Bears and Lions were playing last.

Flores or trade the Fields 6th for Tomlin.

he definitely was watching that offense it was very obvious. It’s going to come down to his ego. If he comes here he has a QB and roster that is close, but he won’t have full control.

Apparently the Raiders are willing to give him full control which is really rare for a first time HC. That control is an illusion and if he doesn’t win it will get stripped, but if he thinks his shit don’t stink and he can win with anyone than he might go for it.

I look at it like this. If he takes that job I don’t like where his mind is or his judgement and we dodged a bullet. Sure we probably get laughed at but what else is new.

I wouldn't be mad if McCarthy is the pick for HC. Atleast he would make it his priority to beat the packers every year. All depends on who his pick for DC would be.

Here's the issue with that.

Ever since his first year with the Lions, Ben has been a hot name. Other teams have tried just throwing money at him. He stayed in Detroit.

Ben's camp has made it CLEAR he is not leaving for a money grab. It has to be the right situation. If that still holds true, and we have no reason to doubt it because Ben's turned teams down left and right the last couple off-seasons, then the Raiders are a poor fit, no matter how much they offer.

My prediction if it goes like this: It'll be Shaw, Flores or Weaver.
