Big fat Brad dropped the mic on the score. McCarthy has 11 playoff wins. The Bears have had 11 since 1963 lmao! Yeah we can’t be mad if we hire McCarthy, we are in no position to hate on him.

When the bar is as low as the Bears, mediocrity looks like greatness…

Yeah we have to get from c to b. The program and culture need a complete rebuild. McCarthy brings an element of certainty that it won’t be a disaster, that matters for a team like this. He is a high floor higher.

Yea, I said this before. His resume is better than any Bears coach in my lifetime. Though, one could argue he'd probably tank his coaching record in Chicago... or that he'd not have that record had he come here a long time ago.

Think the Jets will jump for McCarthy. Pair him up with his old buddy Rodgers

That's exactly it with McCarthy. He is a high floor disaster mitigator. He's Lovie Smith. He will beat up on bad teams, do well in the regular season, might eke out a playoff win in the Wildcard round, and then get wrecked by the teams that are actually contending for a Superbowl.

I still stand by that the Bears did the right thing by firing Lovie Smith after a 10-6 season, because he was not the guy who would lead you to playoff excellence when the stakes are at their highest. They just kept fucking up the hires after Lovie.

McCarthy to me is a return to the Lovie years, but this time with a focus on offense instead of defense.

Dude he's not really like Lovie Smith. Lovie benefited from SB caliber talent on defense and more often than not, under performed. Further evidence, Lovie only had success with CHI.

Moobs has had success elsewhere, and a much longer career.

I think a better comparison for your argument would be John Fox.

Look my #1 choice is Ben Johnson that has not changed. Until they are told they are out he should be the guy. They have to live in reality though and the reality is there is a high chance he says no thanks to the Bears. Then what?

McCarthy is pretty damn good consolation prize. He has developed TWO young QBs, we need that. Had the number ONE offense last year, we need that. Knows how to do the job, we need that. Hires a good staff, we need that.

Would I still take Ben Johnson? Yes because he could be the best coach in the NFL. He could also be the offensive version of Dick Jauron as HC. I think it’s worth the risk.

What they have to determine is if they are willing to wait it out and potentially end up with choice #3. Is that Monken or Flores or someone else I don’t know. Can they live with that? If yes wait for Johnson, if no just hire the guy who wants to be here.

Personally I feel like Johnson should have already told them he would come here if they want him. If he has not the odds are slim and none he wants this job.

Actually the offensive version of Dick Jauron was Matt Nagy. Both lucked into rediculous great seasons and both are trying to find the whys

I think you might be losing my point in the weeds here.

John Fox came here and bombed. He was looking for a cash out and so no, I don't see them as the same.

When I am comparing McCarthy to Lovie, what I mean is that with McCarthy we will have good seasons again but never seriously be a Super Bowl contender, let alone a perennial one, under his watch. To me, McCarthy represents surrendering to mediocrity because you believe your only other choice is to be bad, and you don't dare dream of being great.

That's what it was like under Lovie.

I have high standards. I want NFC championship and Superbowl appearances and wins.

Well you don't know how McCarthy would do until after DUH!!

Fox was a Super Bowl veteran coach who knew how to run a team and could put together a good staff. It's very similar. I think McCarthy is better, but it's very similar.

Lovie's tenure was something of an anomaly here. I don't really see McCarthy and Lovie as all that similar. But yes, you are just trying to emphasize that McCarthy is the safer pick with the lower ceiling, we get it. No need for inappropriate comparisons.

I agree with a lot of this. Personally, my short list would be Johnson, Monken, McCarthy, in that order.

I think Johnson ends up here and a lot of the angst and Raiders talk is just his agent driving up the asking price.

But if Johnson to the Raiders is legit, or he goes back to Detroit, then Monken is my next pick - both Johnson and Monken to me represent going for greatness and have that potential. Doesn't mean they will reach it, but I won't fault the Bears for either.

However, if the Bears can't land either, McCarthy is a very safe choice, and to me, the safest bet to at least bring the Bears up to a certain level. I think the drop off after those 3 is so steep, you're just hoping for pure 100% luck on picking the right guy at that point.

The choice rn should be Johnson or monken. My interest level is tied to both of them. After that I guess McCarthy or Carrol as meh as it would be can’t be worse than the tards George usually parades around town. If they can trade for tomlin and doesn’t cost arm and a leg that’s the grand slam imo. Other than these options might as well not even watch next year
