I had my first one last year. Don't worry about it, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. The worst part of it, by far, is the prep. You'll be drinking a shit ton of liquid with laxatives. And you'll be on the toilet all the time. But that's the worst of it. The actual colonoscopy was a piece of cake, and you'll feel nothing. I don't even remember most of it due to the sedation I was under (they called it partial sedation or something like that), and I was able to go to work the next day.

I recommend everyone get a colonoscopy because my doctor was able to find and remove a polyp that would have been really bad news had I not gotten the colonoscopy. And most guys don't get colonoscopies due to fear, but it's really unjustified fear.

Pretty universal that the prepping is the worst part. The procedure itself is meh. Far better to do it when you should then to get cancer that could have easily been dealt with if caught early.

In all seriousness, every man should have at least one by the time they're 30. Not painful, just uncomfortable. You can discover a lot of early issues (as well as late issues) with the full exam. This, and bloodwork, are two fairly simple maintenance procedures everyone should consider to make the necessary adjustments to their lifestyles if they want to get as many healthy years of life out of the body.
