The youngster approached the microphone at the Kids Only press conference on Saturday, his question for Patrick Kane.
“How did you really break your wrist?” the child said to roaring laughter.
“What do you mean by that?” said Kane.
Kids say the darndest things. And at their own presser at the Chicago Blackhawks’ fourth annual convention, they also ask them. With Kane, Corey Crawford and Nick Leddy as their targets, the kids fired away.
Here’s a sample of some of the best (well, after that lead one, of course):
Q to Crawford: “Are you afraid of (Boston Bruins defenseman) Zdeno Chara?” A: “You should ask Kane. He’s what, two feet taller than you?”
Start of question to Kane: “Jonathan Toews said you annoy him…” to which Kane answered, “he annoys me, too.”
Q: “Where is the Cup winning puck?” Kane: “Maybe the linesman (Steve Miller) has it… . It would be nice if it showed up.”
Q to Kane: “I’m going to Buffalo this week. Can I stop by your house?”
Q to Crawford: “What do you do to keep in shape?” Kane: “Why are you asking him?”
All for Carcillo
General manager Stan Bowman faced a few questions during the hockey operations panel on Saturday afternoon. One was regarding new tough-guy acquisition Daniel Carcillo, and whether he could help or hinder the Blackhawks.
“Carcillo is one of those guys who is very annoying to play against. But when he’s on your side he keeps the other team on edge,” Bowman said.
“He’s going to make sure they don't take liberties with our star players. All you have to do is ask (Jonathan) Toews or Kane or (Patrick) Sharp about these kind of players when they’re on your team, and they like that because they like to do their thing and not always be looking over their shoulder at guys coming after them. It’s going to make teams think twice about targeting our stars.”
Toews was certainly welcoming any locker-room verbosity Carcillo may add.
“That’s what we like,” he said Friday. “I’ll never say anything bad about our locker room last year, but we wanted to add some of that charisma, personality. A noisy locker room is always better than the opposite.”
