So, I got a dell windows 7 laptop and it won't start windows and it said start launch repair but it can't access this. It says I need the windows 7 cd. I can not get to any restore point or start in safe mode or anything. I don't have the windows 7 disk so I'm guessing I'm screwed. It's a cheap laptop I use for school and I'm guessing its doneso. Any thoughts out there? I'm not bad at computers but I am no tech.

Yeah if it won't boot to Safe Mode or anything you likely need to do either a repair install of the OS or do a total reformat/re-install of the OS which will require a Windows 7 disc.

Heres the deal though, getting a disc is not real hard, but do you have the key for the Windows OS on the laptop? It would likely be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop if its there.... if you got that then just torrent the version of Windows 7 you have, burn it to a disc and you are good to go.

You can try Billix and see if you can save that installation. It's not for the light reader, but it's a bit of a swiss-army knife that gives you most opportunities to correct issues, including with a windows install.

One last thing guys, I have the dell cd that installs drivers and stuff. But it won't bring up the disk so I am guessing I need the windows 7. Is there a trustful website I can get this from? Thanks for the help

Nah drivers disc is not going to have the OS on it.

You will need to torrent the Windows 7 disc image, torrenting is just a P2P thing.

Go here and download/install the free utorrent client

Then there are many sites that provide torrent magnet links so you can download through uTorrent.... I use KickassTo or PirateBay alot... if you can tell me which Windows 7 version you had on the machine.... Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc and whether it was x64 or x86 I can find the torrent you ought to download for you.

Its just an ISO file which is a disc image.... burn it to a regular DVD with ImgBurn unless you already have another burning software you prefer.

EDIT: Your product key sticker should say the version of Windows you have if you wanna check it to confirm

Yes, make sure whatever program you burn it with, also burns the bootsys(aka: Makes it bootable, which is not visible, just on the ISO itself).

Thanks for all the help guys. I got the cd working on my computer and it is trying to repair. I had to move my boot priority for cd drive up to first priority for it to work. I will buy yall a beer if we ever cross paths. lol Lets hope this works.
