From a Devils fan on the East Coast,

that was an incredible run! Rooting for you guys (unless we meet in the Finals). :beerbang::beerbang:

It was an absolute blast for the first 6-7 weeks of the season.

dont mean to be a downer but it means nothing if we dont win the cup.

Yes it does.. A record is still a record, and not contingent on anything else.

The season will be still be a failure but it wouldn't tarnish a record of that merit, just as individual records aren't tarnished if they happen in a season without a cup win.

I dont agree at all with that. A first round exit again...well, ahh...yeah, that would be a fucking disgrace. But a deep run into the Finals, win or lose considering the lockout, the short, condensed season and the unbelievable effort they put in getting such a great start when it was almost manditory that they do so....in my eyes that's one terrific season. A Stanley Cup would be a great cherry on top but I could live with this season coming up just short.

Sorry, I can't agree with that. 21-0-3 start & end up short of winning the Cup?

I'm not gonna look back at the 'streak' if they fail again in the playoffs.

God all I can think about is how fucking spoiled we are with this team compared to a decade ago. I mean seriously we are talking about a team that won a cup three years ago and just set the record for points to start a season. I get that our expectations should be high and that ultimately championships are what counts, but can we just enjoy the ride.

Think anyone remembers or cares that the Patriots went 16-0 a few years ago? They failed to win the most important game. Their season was a complete failure. Sure, fans had fun on that run, but it was a meaningless effort.

Same with the Hawks. They are the best team in hockey. If they cannot seal the deal, the whole season, including the record, means nothing and the season was a failure. They must win the cup.

Enjoy the ride, but remember what really matters.

But that's just it. We all know what it feels like to have this team win it all. No one is throwing parades, but this team has been substantially better than expected by all. There is nothing wrong with enjoying that fact and yes, even celebrating that fact right now.

I think hockey and baseball ( in terms of getting wins ) are about equal from game to game , so this streak truly was something special . But yeah some of u guys r right ..... it wont feel the same w/o the Cup .

But even if it doesn't happen I won't fault these guys too much as long as they dont go out and fall flat on their faces . U need alot of breaks to win the championship in just about any sport .

Some here claim it would have no meaning without the Cup? How? It would still be the record. On that basis it would have meaning.

I totally get that you would prefer the Cup (even if offered a choice between the two). I get that. But it's not like anyone could reasonably put an asterisk on the run.

(except rivals - but they don't count cause they are biased. My Flyer friends still claim an asterisk on our '95 Cup cause it was a shortened season. Dumbasses.) lol

On April 27, the regular season ends. That season is OVAH. The playoffs start a new season. The only thing accomplished was team seeding...nothing more. The playoffs have very little to do with the regular season...so starting 21-0-3 has virtually nothing to do with what happens at playoff time. The fucking game isnt played the same and certainly not officiated the same.

The streak and the playoffs have nothing to do with each other.....

You can't enjoy anything, can you?

And is it that big of a failure to not when the Cup? 16 teams vie for it, and you can't win it every year. A first-round exit would be a disappointment for sure, but if we don't win the Cup, sure we didn't reach our ultimate goal, but I wouldn't call the whole season a failure just because we had success in the regular season and didn't come out on top in the postseason.
