This should make everyone in Cook County feel nice and safe. Cook County is basically releasing illegal alien accused felons instead of deporting them. Basically they'll be release, dodge their court date and likely never be heard from again except when they commit another felony. Way to go Cook County.

Cook County became the first municipality to release illegal alien violent felons into its own society rather than deport them. When 40 accused felons were released from Cook County jail rather than be turned over to Federal authorities for deportation, Cook County officially became the first county in the nation to take its national immigration policy to such an extreme.

The ordinance sponsor Jesus Garcia, another Democratic County Board member, issued a statement asking why immigrants should be treated any differently than anyone else who has been arrested. “By refusing to detain people who are entitled to their freedom, based merely on a request from (immigration agents) we are upholding our system of justice," he wrote.

I'm assuming these persons probably made bail or were released until their court date. Unlike you or me they have no identity in the united states so the likely hood that they'll show up for their court date is pretty miniscule.

My heart just sank and I feel sick to my stomach........ this is truly beyond comprehension.

Defending his vote in favor of the new law, Democratic County Commissioner Larry Suffredin attempted to explain, “What we are doing is righting a wrong against people who are on the soil of Cook County under the protection of the US Constitution." Mr. Suffredin didn’t detail which part of the US Constitution contains protections for illegal aliens however.

So what they are saying is that breaking the law (keeping in mind these are felony charges) is irrelevant. These people have been wronged by not being allowed to be here legally.

THIS is EXACTLY the scenario that scares many of us. Political stance and certain individuals opinions getting in the way of protecting us from criminals. These individuals are here illegally AND charged with felony counts and they let them free????

Did I miss the memo that allows US citizens to go free after committing felonies?

If they serve their time or have yet to be convicted, yes, US citizens can go free after committing felonies.

If they post bail, or if they serve their time. From what I understand from this, these are confirmed, illegal felons, that are awaiting trial? Why would they be released, as opposed to being deported, or held until trial just like other felons that don't post bail?

I received the memo in an email.

I basically said "it is now O.K. to randomly kill or rob people so continue business as usual".
