Is this the biggest area of need on the team now? Who ends up making the roster? Judging by the lack of additions there I wonder if they really like Kindle Vildor? He did get one start at the end of the season.

CB 2 is going to be a weakness this season. I will say they have young options with upside, but little proven.

Johnson

Trufant/Vildor

Graham/Shelly

Burn/Roberson battling for the 6th spot

I think corner depth and linebacker depth are both areas of concern at this point. Hopefully they can mine the UDFA and cheap veteran 1 year deals for some of that depth.

Casey Hayward is still available .... get him Pace... between him, Trufant and Jaylon, we should get great outside corners....Shelley and Vildor can fight it out for slot and Roberson is depth for injuries

I still like Shelley, and look for Graham to be his back-up to start. They are similar guys and theoretically should play smarter than Skrine.

This whole defense might be in trouble, getting older and it showed during last years 2nd half of the schedule

Yeah, our DB group is bound to take more than one step back. It stinks, without COVID we could have absolutely been able to afford to keep Fuller.

If Fields ends up being the QB he is projected to be, we have a new window for a championship tied to his career. I am over any distress I felt with holes on our defensive roster. Our great recent defenses didnt lead to a lot of wins.

100% will bring in another vet...they can’t ride with that depth. 1 major injury(JJ) and we would be fd.

My defensive weakness first off is obviously depth. We are pretty thin on defense. Db2 is an obvious glaring hole. Then we have hicks and trevethan taking another step back as they age. Quinn and ejack were already shit last year so if they improve from shit that is actually a positive

Pass rush and the return of overpaid Robert Quinn coming back to form on the stat sheet will make their transition go smoother.

Agreed. We've had to give away so many draft picks since 2017...look at the actual defense regression. I wouldn't be surprised if they fell beneath league average in 2021.

Defense rankings YPG PPG

2018: YPG 3rd; PPG 1st

2019: YPG 8th; PPG 4th

2020: YPG 11th; PPG 14th

With Goldman back, Nichols in a better position and Desai possibly getting more pressure with 2 ridiculously paid pass rushers, the corners might have some help and won’t need to be all pros to look okay.

I think Attachou could be a revelation for the pass rush. I’m also hoping Gipson takes a next step in depth. But we do need a veteran corner like Hayward to step in to that Tracy Porter role.

That’s the concern. We’re shuffling to find starter quality opposite JJ but if he’s injured again the position becomes a major liability.

Hoping Vildor makes a year two leap and we find something in Roberson or Burns is asking a lot.

I know i'm still pretty worried about what were doing to replace K.Fuller and still worried about J.Johnson's injury/shoulder issues. We have D.Trufant, A.Burns, K.Vildor and D.Shelley, but i see Vildor as more of a NB and know D.Shelley is nothing more than a NB, and then still have M.Joseph, Tre Roberson and Teez Tabor and none of those names make me feel too confident.

Maybe Thomas Graham but i doubt he'll be ready.

There are some interesting CB's still in free agency.
R.Sherman, C.Heyward, Steven Nelson, B.Breeland and other vets out there.

You better either have a great pass rush or great coverage DB's to be a good/great defense and i'm not sure either one are great right now. The pass rush is our better option of the two to be great next year as we sit right now. I say this thinking/hoping R.Quinn will be better this year.
