I absolutely love Nashville as a city. It's so much fun and has a great, vibrant atmosphere. I go there all the time. Shit, just saw Gregg Allman downn there two days ago.

But one thing I cannot stand is how bad the current "country" music is. It's mind boggling how anyone can even call this stuff country. It always seems to crack me up when I see a bunch of rugged, blue collar tough lookin rednecks blasting to some Florida Georgia Line song and acting all hard. Always seems to crack me up.

Anyways, this video just shows how bad it is. It's in the same damn key. ALL OF THEM!!

I heard somewhere that you saw Gregg Allman.
Good show! I've seen the Allman Brothers a few times, and first time seeing Gregg solo. He's still kickin and married to a hot 24 year old haha.

But really though, love that city and went down there to see him. It pains me to listen to some of the other country music out there nowadays. But, Broadway is a lot of fun. If you ever make it to Nashvile let me know and I'll recommend players to go for some real, good music. And a celeb sighting(if you are into that kinda thing).

desers, I probably told you my ex brother-in-law tried to make it in nashville. to his credit, he was more old-school country, but he used to brag about hanging out with big n' rich (esp cowboy troy) and shitheads like kenny chesney. he stopped talking to me about it when he told me he had dinner at brooks and dunn's house and I asked him if their bed had their names over each bro's pillow like ernie and bert

ND is horrible.
Love/d older country back when it was authentic, folksy and easily differentiated from pop rock/soft rock.

Basically it is southern oriented soft-rock now.......just so overly produced.

Garth Brooks is amazing; I want to see his show in Vegas so badly.

Willie Nelson....obviously Johnny Cash is a fkn American legend....don't see anyone like that now.

I like outlaw country and the alt country that honors it, as des and I have discussed. Funny story about garth, aka chris "alternative" gaines.

I got transplanted to oklahoma from chicago as a child and it probably explains my eternal bitterness. I went back home for a college break and a garth brooks concert tour was announced. The phone lines were so tied up for 7 minutes that 7 oklahomans died because they couldn't reach 911. God-squadders like the number 7. I'm thinking it was a sign.

Now, if garth/chris writes a song about that, I'll forgive him.

Saw Garth Brooks in Chicago and again in St. Louis on his current tour and he was fucking amazing each time. Cannot recommend his shows enough.

I haven't really listened to much country music since high school, but all this new shit that I've been hearing is just fucking miserable. It's an insult to artists like Garth that his music is considered part of the game genre.

Garth started the pop country. And I love Garth Brooks, but just calling like I see it.

It's an insult to my guy Waylon Jennings.

I read Waylon's autobiography. What a crazy life! What I love about Waylon though is that he is not just straight up country. He has that rock n roll taste to his music. Mind you, he was in Buddy Hollys band as a guitarist so he always had that little kick of rock n roll with him. Which makes Waylon my fav next to Kris Kristofferson; who is hands down my fav. His songwriting is fantastic and I love his perfectly unperfect vocals.

For those looking for real country.

Country music is real and the "white mans blues".

If you guys ever get the chance to read Ryan Binghams life-story you'll understand it does not get much more country than him.

Grew up with alcoholic, drug addicted parents who couldn't get their shit together. Dad was a alcoholic drug addidct oil field grunt while mom was a full blown alcoholic. Left home at 17 and traveleld in the Texas/Mexico rodeos to make money on the side of his shithole jobs on ranches. Went to Paris, France at 21 to play a cowboy in some disney cowboy/indian show. Gets there, and told the guy he was to take over for wouldn't opt out of his contract.

So he was homeless, broke from a one-way ticket to paris and blowing 50 bucks on a tip in England he didn't know the currency of. Meets a Navajo Indian who invites him into his place with buncha others(he's got cool indian feathers on forearms as tribute) so he can make enough money to get home. Busks in Paris subways trying to buy a ticket.

Get's home. Plays the texas circuit living out of a suburban van trying to make enough money to just survive.

Drummer and Bingham flip a coin. Heads-Cali. Tails- NY.

Heads.

They head to LA, couch-surf for awhile while living in van and eventually get caught up with Marc Ford of Black Crows.

Writes the major song for 'crazy heart'; all the while his mother dies from alcoholism and his father ends up shooting himself in the head.

*Now THAT is not only a strong person; but the most country "soul" i've ever read about.

Oh I agree completely. A lot of the shit you hear now started because Garth Brooks was such a huge mainstream hit--something that didn't happen all that much in country music, especially with male country artists.

Like I said before, I'm not a huge country music guy. But I've got a hard time listening to the shit that's out there now and say it's country music just like Garth Brooks' version of country music. Feels like a totally different genre.

To me, Garth is just a very unique sliver of the music industry. He's not quite country like your guy Waylon but he's also nothing like those dumb fucks singing about their pickup trucks in 2015. He's somewhere in the middle and he's likely there all by himself.
