Good player. But they won't give the money he will be looking for to anyone. It will be a rental. And @hyatt151 run of two teams and one championship over 60 years, rolls on.

Don't love giving up Cam Smith. There's a real lack of quality 3B in the majors. It's like J-ram, Bregman, and Devers + 1-2 guys who pop up every year and everyone else is kinda mid. I think Cam Smith can be one of those top 5 type 3B. I would have preferred to trade some of the outfield depth. I don't think the cubs really "overpaid" but just wish it was similar valued other parts.

Having said that i mean... I think tucker is modern day Larry Walker. If they can re-sign him i think it's less of a concern with Smith leaving. But when you think about it the trade is essentially Morel, Bigge, Ty Johnson, Wesneski and Cam Smith for Tucker. And when you look at it through that lens it's way more palatable. Johnson was a 15th round pick. Bigge was a 12th round pick. Morel was an IFA guy but not like a big one so developed. Weneski you got for a rehab win in Effross. Smith was really the only thing they invested heavily into and obviously the return is a top 10 player in baseball.

No way they aren't going to get a long term deal done with Tucker. They'll have to take whatever they can get for Bellinger and maybe Tauchman is worth something.

3b has been a glaring problem for years. Morel is a distant memory. Paredes was never more than just a guy though he started hitting at the end of the season when it didn't matter. Wisdom was never an every day player and Mastrobuoni is not a long term answer. I like Madrigal more than most of CCS seems to but he can't stay healthy for more than five minutes.

Tauchman signed with the White Sox days ago and Madrigal's been gone for weeks.

I don't think they overpaid for him as he is a good player but he IS a rental unless they change the way they do things.
they did with Bellinger when he hit free agency, and I'm confident they will extend him whether he hits free agency or not

One in 60 plus years....LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Nice choice of teams. Look at the teams under my avatar, dumbass. I've been witness to 11....even the fucking White Sox won one. You really know how to pick'em, ace.

More i've been thinking about it the more it doesn't make sense to me unless the cubs seriously will attempt to re-sign him which is contrary to the early reporting. Like i get the idea of it being a win now type thing but "winning now" by creating a giant hole at 3B which you had last year and cost you? You're essentially swapping Belli and Tucker as players in terms of "adds". Even if you say tucker is +5 wins over Belli which would be a monster season that gets you to 88 minus whatever you lose vs Parades at 3B vs their current hole.

Like if they were a 90 win team last year and did this then I can sorta see the logic of trying to win now and figuring it out later because you could probably have a realistic shot at a title. But the cubs are at least 1 big piece probably 2 away from that. Having said that, I don't think it's a guarantee the cubs get it done but I sorta have to believe the idea of this trade is to re-sign him. Tucker also kinda fits the mold of player they have been going for. Solid defender. Seems to be a high character guy a la dansby. Contact profile vs masher.

If they aren't actually prepared to go to like $400 mil then i have serious questions about the front office. Like what are we doing here?

I agree any move like this is dumb if they don't re-sign him. I'd offer him 10 years 450 million today.

I dont think the 3b hole is an issue though because I think they could sign a FA better than Paredes. I also think shaw or triantos will be the best 3b they've had since Bryant

If cash was not the issue Jed should sign Bergman and trade Hoerner plus Bellinger for Castillo plus a add.

I see this as Jed playing for 2025. If he can win and get extended then he can work on 2026 and beyond. But with out winning 2025 he is gone and the next guy deals with it.

So this was a job save deal. TBH it is about time the Cubs acted as a major market. Yanks traded for Soto. I don't see them crying like babies over it. No they went out and attacked F/A and found other solutions.

So as a fan of the team I want to see a winning product. That means not acting like a next year want bee class org and fan base and act like a team spoken in the same sentences as NYY, LAD and Hou. Not the over priced clown show that goes along with LAA.

Done with my rant.

Short subject. Win games. Get into the play offs and don't shit the bed.

That creates new revenues and attraction from players wanting to not be on a suck show team.

You also have to consider what the trade return Bellinger will get since he will now be moved(apparently). It won’t be a top prospect but could get a useful piece.
