Most World Series back then were under a cloud of suspicion of being fixed. This isn't news. Hell, I honestly think if you want to make excuses or believe in "curses", which don't exist, you have to look at the karma associated with the Cubs winning their last WS in part because of Fred Merkle's mistake, which may not have even happened.

Then again Boston had the better pitching staff, Chicago was playing at Comisky Park(which was an advantage to the Red Sox) and the entire Series was a joke. The players almost went on strike during it. Whether it was thrown or not a case could be made that neither team was really all that into playing hard.
