Cubs Decline Jeff Samardzija’s Option |

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs decline Jeff Samardzija’s 2012 3 million option. However, Samardzija is expected to be re-signed to a reduced salary. Samardzija is not eligible for arbitration or free agency and teams can cut a players salary by 20 percent from the previous year. He will make the team out of spring training. If it’s as a starter or a relief pitcher.

As reports have mentioned, Samardzija is expected to be considered for a starting job next season.

The Cubs signed Jeff Samardzija to a 5 year deal in 2007, which included options for 2012 and 2013. It was a major league deal worth 10 million.

All in all, this move just saves the Cubs a little bit of money, not much though. He will return.

Side Note: Jed Hoyer’s press conference will be at 3 p.m. central tomorrow at Wrigley Field. Also, Jason McLeod will be introduced too.

More to come…

Kind of expected to see this move. Hope Samardzija continues to improve and impress next year, whether in the rotation or in relief. He's a good piece to have going forward.

I would like to have Samardzija back. In any way we use him. He had a pretty damn good season this past year.

He should sign with the Bears and play receiver.
