Carlos Zambrano
Carlos Zambrano passed Kerry Wood on the Cubs' strikeouts list and Chicago beat the New York Mets 5-3 on Saturday. The Cubs won for the eighth time in 11 games under interim manager Mike Quade, thanks to another sharp performance from Zambrano. Zambrano (7-6) moved into third on the club's strikeout list with 1,411 -- four more than Wood -- after registering eight over seven innings. He allowed two runs and four hits while improving to 4-0 in six starts since his latest return to the rotation, another twist in a wild season that has seen the volatile ace bounce back and forth from the bullpen and get suspended for a dugout confrontation with former teammate Derrek Lee. The recent success comes while he's dealt with a seriously ill nephew back home in Venezuela. "He's a calmer dude," Quade said.
vs
Dave Bush
Brewers SP Dave Bush pitched six innings on Saturday night, allowing three runs off six hits against the Phillies. The right-hander gave up back-to-back solo homers to start the second inning and an RBI single to Chase Utley in the third for his only damage on the outing. He left in line for the win but the bullpen was unable to hold on. Bush struck out five and walked one in the no-decision.

Ryan Dempster
Cubs Ryan Dempster struggles continued in Sunday's 18-5 loss to the Mets. Dempster allowed seven runs, three earned on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings. He only surrendred two runs over the first four innings, but things fell apart in the fifth. The Cubs were up 4-2 when Angel Pagan led off by reaching on a two-base error, when Tyler Colvin dropped his liner to deep right. The Mets sent 10 men to the plate after that and scored five times. Dempster was finally pulled after he allowed an RBI single to Jonathon Niese. "My velocity's good," Dempster said. "My confidence is good. I'm just not putting guys away when I get ahead of them - and that's a rare occasion right now." The right-hander walked four and struck out five while falling to 12-10 on the season.
vs
Randy Wolf
Brewers SP Randy Wolf allowed two earned runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings of work on Sunday against the Phillies. Wolf struck out five on the day, but his strikeout of Jayson Werth in the third inning marked his 1,500th career punchout. He improved to 11-10 after the bullpen didn't allow another hit to preserve the 6-2 win.
Sunday's game 2:10 EST on WGN
Casey Coleman
Cubs SP Casey Coleman allowed four runs on eight hits in Monday's 5-4 win over the Astros. Coleman was roughed up early, allowing four runs in the second inning. However, he settled down after that and kept Houston off the scoreboard over his next four innings. The right-hander was pulled after throwing 117 pitches with the score tied at four. He walked five and struck out two while earning the no-decision.
vs
Yovani Gallardo
Gallardo pitched well against the Cardinals on Monday, but didn't factor into the decision. He allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings while striking out four in Milwaukee's 8-6 loss to St. Louis.
(Updated 9/7/10) STATS LLC
Advice It was nice to see Gallardo get back to form, as he had allowed 20 earned runs in his previous 14 2-3 innings of work. He is 0-4 with a 5.63 ERA in seven career starts against the Cardinals.
